John, I have a 18-5 that I have been using to project old (45-50 yrs.)film with no problem. However I just ran my first roll of new Panaform through it and am experiencing a lost loop problem also. Are you having the problem with old film or new?

I occurred to me today that one difference between the older reg. 8 film I was projecting on the 18-5 with no problem and the new Fomapan (I called it something else in my previous post) is that I had treated the old film with FILMGUARD, so I treated the new Fomapan roll with FILMGUARD and it now runs through the 18-5 without issue. Might be worth a try for you.

I've found with my 18-5 that it can loose the loop when a thick splice goes through it. That's one reason I like to use the Bolex beveled splicer, the splices go through the gate like they are not even there.
