Just wanted to know if these projectors are any good and are they gentle on fil ?

I have the same model badged as a Revue Lux Sound 80 Stereo. It's a great machine, and the small preview screen is very useful. For showing films in the normal way the 90 degree mirror is moved out of the way.

hello! Kevin,i got na chinon st-1200,well i just to say i,m glad with mine .never scratch a film,but every time i run a film,i allways give it a nice cleaning ,,,
besides that,i should say it,s a great projector,

Only thing to watch is the plastic guides etc wear quite quickly as softish plastic, and they have a smaller gate than say an Elmo so the wear can get in to the film picture area and you won`t see it until you say popped it on an elmo with a wider gate.

If you were a heavy film watcher they do need a bit of regular TLC in the film path and a fairly regularlya test strip of new film run through.

Well run machines in that sense are best avoided, but minters are great.

PS I`d try not to go above about £150 for a very little used one myself.

Wouldn't imagine there would be too many virtually new ones of these knocking about now Mark.

Most 1200ft machines were very expensive when new, especially the Stereo ones, therefore if someone wanted a machine of this value back then with the larger reel capacity, I think it is fair to assume that they would have been quite serious about their hobby with probably a sizeable collection and therefore give it plenty of use. Probably lots of in the early years too.

I think the better larger machines to go for are those that were more adequately supported by their manufacturers in terms of spare parts etc. At least that way you stand a chance that it has been well maintained by some fastidious owner, no matter what useage it has seen.
