I know of a fellow member on here who paid the very most he has ever, for what I know for sure is a truly top title in wonderful condition based on it's source and therefore I am certain he will neither regret the decision, nor ever lose money on the investment.

So, I ask you all.. What is the ONE print that you would truly "push the boat out" for?

I have at least a dozen but it would be very interesting to see what others would say...?

No -- that print is almost certainly one of the 80s universal prints on LPP or AGFA. The give away was the mag track - the IBs were all printed in the late 50s - and then nothing was printed again until the 80s due to legal issues with the movie. In the 50s, they didn't have airline prints with mag tracks, so it would be impossible for there to have been an IB print with a mag track (and in fact, I have never seen an IB print of anything with a mag track). I asked francisco to verify whether it has a Paramount or a Universal logo at the start, but he hasn't gotten back to me.

Enter the Dragon Scope Full Length Feature. I would love it on 16mm or Super 8mm. I saw that film in the theaters on a double bill with "The Green Hornet". I have never seen anyone move so fast and with such precision and charisma. He was, to me, the first "Superhero". And no CGI! [Smile]

I was offered it once and I passed. I have NEVER seen another one for sale since that time. I opted to buy the more common, "Game of Death" 4 Parter.

Scopitones have mag tracks, the ones made in the USA are mostly IB. I sold an IB print Pocket Money (1972) that had a magnetic and an optical track more than a year ago for $500. The mag track was in French. They are rare and some are out there, I've seen at least one feature and those music films but yeah, probably all printed after 1960.

Needless to say, an IB print of a desirable title such as Vertigo will defiantly go for over a thousand, and I would be a bidder on that title on 16mm. But, I can't think of one film I would want on Super 8 bad enough for 1K, I'd rather get it on 16mm, including the animated features.

I would probably do that only for a unique print like a home movie with special interest or a "lost film". I would be more ready to pay a high price for a projector than for a film.

when I was into 8mm and particularly 16mm...I honestly cannot think of a title that i ever wanted that did not get - through my hands..nearly cost me everything financially..I had so many titles but moved them on quickly. I am please I just focussed on my other stuff now (DVD p/j and a bit of 8mm)...Steve Seigal...remember the swop I did with you for my I.B. Rosemarys Baby...which was stunning and I got from you a rare RKO "Leopard Man"...good days! [Wink]

You were fortunate Mark to be into S8 throughout the days of the big releases. Back then all titles could be got and second hand prints turned up regularly on the used lists for affordable prices.

Having left in 93 and returning back nearly 20years on, things aren't so easy. When you do see the big features in good nick, the prices can in some cases border on the ridiculous hence the reason I put this question out there, to see what people would re mortgage their houses for...if anything.

I stand aside Vidar on this one and although I regularly put my films first second and third in my spending since giving up smoking a year back,I still have my limits on any print. Then I turn to Blu Ray as the next best thing.

I would and will pay serious money for a decent 16mm print of Quatermass2 (U.S. title, Enemy from Space). I have the horridly printed and edited Super 8 version which is painful to watch.
In all the years I've been collecting, I've never ever seen the title offered on any list, including years of The Big Reel...and ebay. I know there are prints out there, but I've never seen one offered. I have the Quatermass Xperiment and Quatermass and the Pit, but this 2....which is my favorite ...it is eluding me.

Well done Robert - exactly and that is the answer -and I would certainly "Buy that for a Dollar"...yes great theme that ran through the original movie of "Robo-Cops" narrative.

One of my favourite films.. It had a real life cynicism based on a "bedrock" of reality and lost and perceived hope and belief.

It told the truth...really like a John Wayne movie...in it's truest sense...but who really wins in the end...times are the same and probably worst, in many ways.That is when the world welcomes a gun slinger coming into town - whether that be Bruce Lee; Alan Ladd; Clint Eastwood..et al. We all want a "Robocop" and I for one..."would buy that for a Dollar"...even a penny, Lol. [Smile]

Well,
I was pretty stupid last November, i always wanted a scope feature of Die Hard and despite it being offered by a very generous collector i turned it down as at that precise time i was little short, What a maroon!!!!! I should have pulled out all the stops but i let it slip so now i am still looking.
Also the feature of Silence of the Lambs. Another one i just missed
Hence why i have now sold some of my titles, i save it in the bank to buy films when the ones i want turn up.My hobby is curruntly paying for itself.

If it's any consolation Tom, the colour is quite blue on Die Hard and my Blu Ray blows my Super 8 feature out of sight when projected.

Still a great film to have though and I too, would love to find Silence...one day. [Smile]

Being on a tight budget, I can't say that there is any film I would pay serious money for. I have been fortunate in that the films I wanted cost no more than £120; average is about £40-£50. I tend to go for the older films, which are maybe not so popular with the younger collectors. One film I would like is Bogart's last for Warner's 'The Enforcer', AKA 'Murder inc'.

The worst condition 16mm print in my collection, but the one I think I value the most is the 1939 version of 'The Man in the Iron Mask'

It's a fabulous hobby this one in that there is always something for everyone.

I am glad you are able to purchase the films you like Robert despite like many of us, being on a tight budget.

The best thing I have done is giving up smoking. I was spending in excess of £60 per week on the filthy habit which now can all go on film if I like ...without the wife going ape every time the postman arrived at our front door! [Big Grin]

Still looking for two mint prints of Derann's Scars of Dracula and Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde. Mine have been run to death and need perfect prints on the shelf so I know they are there. Also, my lifelong search for a 16mm color/scope print of Barbarella has come up dry....

I actually got my prize a few years back; "Gypsy" (1962) was the first movie my parents took me to see and it made an indelible impression as my first film experience. I spent over 17 years looking for a good condition IB Tech scope print. Along the way, I was burned severely by dealers who sent me vinegar prints with heavy warping, jump splices, and heavy scratches (both kept my money and disappeared). I was convinced that I would never get one after the two swindles, but it did happen (thanks to 16mm Filmtalk). I am grateful to my parents for not taking me to "Mad Mad World" first (both films were out around the same time), because one can imagine how much a mint IB/scope of that one would cost.

You know, many years back we were travelling to Ealing for one of the BFCC's at the Town Hall, and the discussion turned to this very subject.

My all time favourite movie is "Raiders of the Lost Ark", and despite collecting it on every known format, I genuinely didn't know at that time about the full-length 'scope imports.

So I conceded that if anything would ever tempt me for big bucks, it would be a feature version of "Raiders", knowing full well that it didn't exist...

And just what was the first film to greet us at Perry's stand?

I even said to Ian, "What exactly is that?"...
"Why that's a full length 'scope / stereo print of Raiders of the Lost Ark..."

My poor credit card! [Smile]

But literally, what a dream come true!

I had that title some time ago when I collected 16mm - plus all the Back to the Futures...and Close Encounters.

The one print I would have loved but it never came my way was "Blade Runner" I would have loved that. I had nearly every other dream title that I can think of...

The "dream" being the beautifully re-graded final cut Blu-ray version of "Blade Runner", which finally puts to rights all of the many failings of the numerous pre-release versions and finally presents this masterpiece of work as it should actually be seen.

Well I thought the print I would have really wanted would have been "Star Wars" but I remember as a boy in 1977 cueing to see it and being totally unimpressed. I do understand the metaphor for the print of an old western or 1940's serial but I feel if I bought Star Wars now - it would just be to say that I have a copy - and that really doesn't justify me spending the amount of cash that it goes for now. What I would really love is a marketing full length print of True Grit - I remember Starwood films in St Albans offering this for rent back in the early 1980's - I have the 3x400ft of the film - but the full length I would love. I also wouldn't mind the marketing full length print of the Bruce Dern/Robert Shaw thriller "Black Sunday".

I'd also love a pristine print of 'Thief of Bagdad' but I'm now at the point where purchases are rare due to price and actual availablity of titles. So, fortunately I can turn to, shall we call it 'other alternatives' to supply my needs. lol.

2/ Silence Of The Lambs
3/ Indiana Jones (with stripes)
4/ E.T.
5/ Chicken Run (with stripes)
6/ Titanic (with stripes)

strangely enough, unlike a lot of people, the one print I wouldn't pay excessive amounts for is Star Wars.
I like it, but nowhere near enough to pay the going rate.

Thats one for the Panasonic I'm afraid.

This is a fun subject I can see needs another post. I've already bought that ONE print. For me It's the RBC of Modern Times and I got it on Super 8 and 16mm. I actually don't have any 16mm equipment yet, but Modern Times being my favorite film, I promised myself if I ever found a mint 16mm print, I would get it. I only payed about $400. Haven't watched it yet, but it's the birth of my 16mm collection, which I can't afford to start yet.
Now that I have that, the next one on my list I would pay any amount for is my childhood favorite movie Back to the Future on 16mm. I already know that a member, Oscar on this forum has a prized one, which is envied. I can say I've watched the movie more than any.
I'd also go overboard for a Super 8 print of The Adventures of Robin Hood or The Wizard of Oz, but I'm not unlike many collectors out there.

One that's always been special to me is "You Only Live Twice". It may just be the first movie that I ever saw. It was at a drive-in way upstate when I was about five. Mom and Dad were afraid Mr. Bond's romantic adventures might be taken the wrong way by a kindergartner, but the only thing in the movie that really bothered me was them dumping that car in the water with the helicopter.

If I had serious money to spare, I'd pay serious money for a print...seriously.

But the serious mortgage and car payment are more serious: they'll take those things away!

There was a striped optical print of this feature here in the UK this past week. Still had pretty reasonable colour too! [Smile]

Again I would say Star Wars, original not special edition. That's because it isn't available in best condition in any digital format - and the fact that I passed it up for Goldfinger at a Derann open day.
Before seeing the 70mm Dolby 4.1 showing at the Dominion Tottenham Court Road I had seen it in 35mm at a local Odeon which had a rather washed out print so at first I didn't rate it very highly.

I would pay a lot of money for a full length print of Jaws scope super 8 or 16mm.
My fave film of all time, I have the 200ft cut down and the 2 X 400ft cut down but they have colour fade.

Perhaps I could spent a thousand euros once (every few years!),but not for one film.For at least four!! .As I do have most of the biggies I wanted,(Gone with the Wind,2001 a Space Odyssey,The Sound of Music,most of the Disney era Disney features,most of the MGM musicals,Robin Hood,El Cid,Romancing the Stone,Those Magnificent Men....etc etc) I am not particularly dying for much more. I would like to add Jurassic Park and The Abyss but only under 250 each!

I am assuming that its the Scope version of this film and feature length but then again.. Maybe i'm wrong and thats not the one he has? Every picture I have seen of Umit holding up "Enter the Dragon" is the 4 x 400fter. Hmm...But at any rate $3000 grand for a Super 8 print? No for that I would get the 16mm Scope LPP version. I saw last year a 35mm Print restored with the extra scenes with the priest walking sold on EBay for $3000. Beautiful print.

I remembered your post here when I saw this ad. That one print you might be interested in. Goldfinger on ebay. Some features are not easy to find in a search on ebay because the seller neglects to put obvious words in the title, like "Feature" and "Film".
