Hi all , I need help for a elmo st 600 Track 2 records and plays back ok but it is muffled when I switch to track 1 and two, I can hear track 2 but low down Track 1 wont record and playback just muffled sound sometimes I can hear high piched sound from the movie amongst the noise sound meter works on both tracks when volume is high any help welcomed

The connections on the record switch may not be making good contact. You could try to "clean" the connections by operating the record switch for a number of times. Make sure there is no film in the projector!

It still sounds like a standard-issue case of switch contact oxides, but there are more contacts than just the record switch. (This is a leader among the usual suspects, though.)
Try this:
Unplug the machine. Find every sound related switch you can find and switch it about a dozen times. (I'm big on the track select switch in this case. I had this same thing happen on my ST-1200HD)
Go to every sound jack you can find: plug and unplug the correct connector into and out of it a dozen times also.
Plug the machine in and try the sound again.

Muffled sound, low sound and inablity or difficulty in recording are classic symptoms of "dirty" heads. Cleaning with Isopropyl (or spit) usally clears this.

Thanks steve I will do as you said ,I thought it was the track switch but wasn't sure ,thanks to all posts will update soon
