(the post has been edited with the recent acquisition)
I always try to complete my Tom & Jerry and I have now reached 111 episodes from 120 titles that I knew available on 8mm.
Some titles are released by Derann that they are housed in white boxes or an white boxes with generic pictures glued on that. Other are from Film Office that are always with red generic boxes. The most interesting artworks are from Walton which always come with full color pictures taken from the episode. Some of my TJs are from MGM which have similar art works attraction.
There are some title released by obscure companies and some just simply blank without any information to who have released them.
So since my TJ has reached 111 titles, and they came with different type of boxes and artworks, I have then decided to make my own box, directly printed on the box it self...so no sticking glue is used.
The artworks is following the design created for Walton. I make my own catalog number after the original Walton's cat# from TJ1 - TJ30.
So here is now my TJ's library with uniform box design and cat#
They are as follows:
TJ01 Posse Cat

Wow, you are a collecting God, Winbert. I collect the Tom and Jerrys but I have nothing like this and am still trying to complete the Walton set. I didn't realise there were so many released and assumed that there were more 'duplicate' releases by the various companies that released them. Seems I have a long way to go...
I also love that you have given the Derann and Film Office prints a 'Walton re-release.' Very clever!

That is a fantastic collection! It is always fun to see pictures of other people's film libraries. And the boxes and cover art are as great as you say.
I am wondering if you can name your all-time favorite T&J episode?
Thank you for sharing the pictures!

You certainly beat my 27, by a long mile. I hadn't counted them before your post so I was surprised by how many I actually have as some were bought on composite reels.
By the way great labels on your own design boxes!!

Magnificent Winbert, you're attention to details is to be applauded. Compared to you, I'd have to have the top title, "Top Super 8mm slob!", as I don't have to much to do with original boxes or re-creating them, but this has been a great labor of love for you!
Congratulations, and best wishes on finding those rare titles!

That is a superb set you have collected there Winbert, well done.
At one stage I had about 90 T&J's on Super 8 then things got complicated as I bought many again on 16mm and a couple on 35mm too.
The ones you list at the end if they are your remaining wants I can help you with some of those titles on Super 8.

Winbert that is simply outstanding. We thought we were doing well with 25. A true collector.
Posted by Winbert Hutahaean (Member # 58) on September 12, 2016, 06:04 PM:
Guys thanks.
@Steve J Kirk... it seems to me between Walton, MGM and Film Office there was such competition not to release what other companies had released. Yes there are duplicate on several titles but most of them are not. Then came Derann who released what these 3 companies had deleased plus some new titles.
The obscure companies are those from Dutch and Italy.
@Greg...my all time fav will be those from Fred Quimby era
@Kevin Clark, I have sent you a PM
Posted by Paul Adsett (Member # 25) on September 12, 2016, 07:23 PM:
Superb work there Winbert, what a wonderful collection. But how were you able to print directly on to the film boxes?
Posted by Winbert Hutahaean (Member # 58) on September 12, 2016, 08:45 PM:
Jim, now I have to revise my status to become "the man with the most complete Tom & Jerry episode on super 8mm in Indonesia"...
BTW, you listed Cabin Cruise, I have checked on the net, I did not find TJ episode with this title. This must be just re-titled of TJ "Cruise Cat".
I have found that those TJs from the Netherlands were titled in different way although it is in English.
There are 12 titles that you have but I did not have, as follows:
Jerry's Diary
The Framed Cat
Slicked up Pup
Nit-Witty Kitty
Just Ducky
Two Little Indians
Puppy Tale
Little Red School Mouse
Neapolitan Mouse
Touché, Pussy Cat!
Muscle Beach Tom
Vanishing Duck
So since I have 102 episodes and you have 104 (minus "Cabin Cruise") there must be around 9 titles that I have but you don't. Can you list it here, perhaps I have duplicate for those titles.
I see you don't have "Filet Meow", "Much Ado about Mousing" (I have multiple copies), "It's Greek to Meow" (I have multiple copies), ...what else?. Perhaps we can work out together to complete each collection.
Anyway to answer the questions, both through PM and here, in one reply here my explanation how to make them.
I am not exaggerating here, but it is quite complicate and took so many hours to achieve that.
1. I measure the Walton box and scanned the best box I have as a basic design.
2. I created a pattern of the box where I can cut, fold and glue the pattern to make a solid box.
Here is the pattern:
ps: there were a lot of hit and misses here, since picture sometime not in the exact position. So I had to do trial and error hundreds time until I got that perfect pattern.
3. I had to find the best white cardboard that I can fold (without breaking it) and had the length more than 11 inch since the pattern was longer than that but not to thick so printer still could take it.
(@Pauld Adsett, this is the way I printed it directly to the paper/cardboard)
4. Now for designing individual cover. This is not an easy job too. I browsed to the net for the most notable scene of each episode. It has to be in high resolution if you want to print better pictures. Sometimes I got them easy if they were popular titles. But for less popular titles it was so hard.
5. Move the scene to the template above.
6. Add (paste) with Tom & Jerry's logo that I already store in my drive.
7 Add the year of production info as always seen in the original Walton's
8. Now, the other hard job is to make the titles of each episode. For the easiest ones, we can just use fonts that available in the computer. But I am a perfectionist. If I did that, every cover will just look the same ..so it will be boring. Therefor what I did was to take every individual fonts from each episode that appear in the first credit title. Here is the example:
As you can see where the fonts on my cover Peco's Pest and Part Time Pal are taken from.
9. Then I pasted and after giving my cat# no, I printed it
10. Let the prints dry out for about an hour, then I spray with transparent paint to laminate the print in order to avoid it get faded or blurry after years. It also give shiner and brighter picture.
11. Cut the paper according to the pattern, fold, and glue them.
END
In total for every individual cover will take about 3-4 hours to finish....and I have 102 titles.....
But I am happy since I am a perfectionist one.
Good luck whoever is going to give a try
cheers,

Yes cabin cruise is a 50 ft reel of the cruise cat I forgot to leave that out. Those covers look nice I have most of mine in the sturdy white hinged 200ft boxes with the generic derann covers they used with the synopsis's printed on address labels.

Thanks for that detailed explanation Winbert. You obviously have a commendable level of dedication to this film collecting hobby.

Antoine can you post your lists of titles?
Posted by Winbert Hutahaean (Member # 58) on September 13, 2016, 09:41 PM:
Jim,
I have checked my list against your list and found what I have but not in your list. There are 13 titles all together, as follows:
O-Solar-Meow
Purr-Chance to dream (I have multiple copies)
Of Feline Bondage
Calypso Cat
Snowbody Loves me
The A-Tom-Inable Snowman
Jerry-Go-Round
The cat's me-ouch

Tom and Cherie

So,with 72 titles plus the ANCHORS AWEIGH extract, all in standard or super 8 color/sound,does it make me the third biggest T&J collector in the world, or Europe,or Greece,or Athens ? Decidedly,I don't like Chuck Jones (I have only one) and Gene Deitch (I have none although I would like to have one or two).
Winbert, your numbering is arbitrary and you don't distinguish among companies. MILLION DOLLAR CAT and JOHANN MOUSE were MGM releases with respective numbers M-107 and M-112. Also, you and the others do not point out the Cinemascope editions. MGM also released flat versions of their Ciemascope films in all gauges (35, 16,and 8mm).I have both versions of SOUTHBOUND DUCKLING,from Cineavision and Derann and there are others too.
I also have the "Cabin Cruise" extract. It was given as a gift by some company as far as I can remember.

Winbert ...
Should I assume that, not only do you have every Tom and Jerry on super 8, but every issue of each title, that is, if Derann put out "Cat Concerto", you would also have the official MGM, as well as Walton ect ect?

Winbert as of now I don't have any duplicates as I get titles I need I check them out if they don't meet my expectations I keep looking for another copy and sell the others.

@Panayotis, yes I knew it. But since I was making all as Walton's design, so I just numbered those to TJ on my Walton cat# as it is coincidence this two spaces (TJ 22 & 23) were emptied for an unknown reason, while Walton had TJ until TJ30.
I only collect one version, as I am concerned mainly to the story, not to the version. I was aware that "The Egg and Jerry" was a remake from "Hatch Up Your Troubles" so I just only bought either one.

No Osi, I am not kind of OCD like that ... I am just focusing on the story not the version.

One of the best sources for Tom and Jerry I know of is this old book from the early 1990s....https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tom-Jerry-Definitive-Animated-Adventures/dp/0517573512.
I would have thought, to be complete, that the remakes would find a place in the collection. Although the story may largely be the same, visually they are quite, quite different, not only because of the cinemascope format but also because the artwork is different.
There also also the question of the two 'Spike and Tyke' cartoons (dog and son). I have a flat version of one of these, 'Scat Cat', with optical sound.
Posted by Panayotis A. Carayannis (Member # 1220) on September 15, 2016, 07:16 AM:
Yes,the Patrick Brion book is by large THE best on the subject. Period. He makes only one mistake. He doesn't mention several cartoons that are in cinemascope, because he had seen only the flat version, and the accompanying pictures are from this one. But for other cinemascopes, and this is silly, the accompanying pictures are aqueezed!
I don't buy "both" versions.I prefer the 'scope ones. For "Southbound Duckling" I had the flat version and then I discovered that the 'scope version was also available.
Posted by Winbert Hutahaean (Member # 58) on September 15, 2016, 11:56 AM:
So guys, a good news here for me.
Since I posted this thread, I got a friendly email me offering Tom Jerrys that I have not had. So we have just sealed a deal for 9 TJs, they are:
Framed Cat, The 1950
Just Ducky 1953
Mouse in the House 1947
Nit Witty Kitty 1951
Slicked Up Pup 1951
Puppy Tale 1954
Springtime for Thomas 1946
Touché, Pussy Cat! 1954
Two Little Indians 1953
These 9 TJs are now on their way to Indonesia. It will take about 6-8 days to arrive.
So when they arrive, I will revise my list above and it will make my collection to become 111 titles....and by then I will take over my previous position....to be the number 1....
So we'll see...
cheers,

Hi, Winbert and Jim and others, re: Tom & Jerry,
Hanna and Barbera created 114 Tom & Jerrys,Gene Deitch produced 13 and Chuck Jones made 34,making a total of 161 theatrical cartoons, Winbert you asked me to list my Tom & Jerry's on my previous post I said I had 108 titles,on checking again my list and the collection itself I have found I have a title not on my list namely 'fine feathered friend' a Film Office release. Thus making 109,again on checking my collection some titles are in scope I have 16 in total,,3 of these are scope remakes of earlier flat titles, these are 'Egg and Jerry scope remake of 'Hatch up your troubles' 'Tops with Pops'scope remake of 'Love that Pup'and 'Feedin the Kiddie'scope remake of'The Little Orphan. so some may say that is 106 titles but there again these scope titles were released in their own right, any way here is my list in no particular order....

Antoine, thanks for posting your list of Tom & Jerry which you have in your collection, like Winbert, I did not know that the Tom & Jerry cartoons 'Cat above mouse below' 'Hic-cup pup'
and 'The body guard'were out on super 8,this is what makes the forum so good, you learn all sorts of useful and interresting things. That's another 3 titles to go on my wants list.
Winbert thanks also for your post.I do have 'Neopolitan mouse'its on my collections list 5th from the bottom,
but you are correct about 'Hic-up pup'I did forget that title and it needs to be put on my wish list.
About duplicate titles etc.I will send you an e-mail shortly....Regards Dave.

Antoine,
Thanks for your details.
When I am asking company release, I am more asking who released it on 8mm.
I have several MGM releases they have M-xx cat#. Do the three TJ s above also have this cat#?
And how is it packed....in the MGM common box with black bar on the top and colorful picture from the scene on the bottom?
Cheers,

Wimbert,
My three films are in white cardboard boxes as these films have been bought second-hand on Ebay

Hi Antoine...it is inteesting.
I want to know even deeper... pls allow me to ask more.
How is the title card...is it in English title or other languages?
Posted by Panayotis A. Carayannis (Member # 1220) on September 18, 2016, 02:44 AM:
Antoine, I don't know what do you mean by "...well edited by MGM to the movie below..." What I meant was that MGM,or MGM/Ken) did not release the Chuck Jones (or,for that matter the Gene Deitch) Tom and Jerry cartoons in 8 mm. Other companies did.
Posted by Antoine Orsero (Member # 41) on September 18, 2016, 02:52 AM:
Panayotis
When the movie starts there is the MGM logo. Isn't it?

Antoine...if you have a google account then reupload the same file on google drive and share the link here.

YouTube forbade me this video because of the copyright. I place elsewhere and I will keep you informed!
Posted by Panayotis A. Carayannis (Member # 1220) on September 18, 2016, 10:11 AM:
As Winbert said,we are concerned about what company released the films in 8 mm. Of course we know they were produced by MGM and every film produced by MGM features the MGM logo in the beginning. Here the fact is that Ken/MGM during the time they were releasing Tom and Jerry cartoons in super 8,released only Tom and Jerry cartoons produced by Fred Quimby and directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera and no Tom and Jerry cartoons produced by Chuck Jones and directed by Jones or Abe Levitow and no Tom and Jerry cartoons produced by William Snyder and directed by Gene Deitch. If I reverse your thinking, the Tom and Jerry cartoons released in 8 mm by Film Office, that feature no original titles and no MGM logo, may not be MGM cartoons!!

Just received another T & J which i spotted on ebay for £8.99 + p+p. The title is The flying cat, although advertised as a rare title i cant say i am aware of if its rare or not but i hadn't noticed this title before, so at this price i did the buy it now and am pleased to say it is a really great print, excellent colours with no fade and the box is also in excellent condition.
Maybe someone on here could tell me who released this one, its full and uncut.

A nice later Derann print there at an unprecedented bin price!
Well done my friend..enjoy!
Posted by Graham Ritchie (Member # 559) on September 28, 2016, 04:29 PM:
Another excellent Derann release Tom with the same cover, is "Smarty Cat". Its well worth getting, as its the only T/J cartoon I can think of, that features Tom and his pals watching his "home movies"
Derann released it brand new and the colour and sound is simply stunning

Hi guys,
You all have a great collection.
I don´t have any Tom and Jerry on 8mm or 16mm, but few months ago I bought a 35mm IB Tech. Cinemascope Tom and Jerry. It is "The Tot Watchers" from 1958. I bought it, because it is one of them with Perspecta Stereo sound. I have a perspecta integrator to run them with perspecta sound, but I didn´t test my equipment yet.
My question, are the perspecta Tom and Jerry cartoons ever relesased in Super 8 with a Stereo sound?
Posted by Andrew Woodcock (Member # 3260) on October 02, 2016, 04:13 AM:
I have quite a few Super 8mm T&J prints from different distributors including some of the later Derann released prints.
I don't believe any of the ones I have were ever recorded in stereo though. Scope.. yes, but I don't recall seeing stereo scope badge on any.
I don't have anywhere near as many as some of these guys here within this thread though, so maybe they could tell us otherwise?

I officially announce now that I take back the number 1 position as I just received (with the helps of a forum member who sold them) 9 TJs that are not in my list:
TJ103 Framed Cat, The
TJ104 Just Ducky
TJ105 Mouse in the House
TJ106 Nit Witty Kitty
TJ107 Slicked Up Pup
TJ108 Puppy Tale
TJ109 Springtime for Thomas

2. Jerry's Diary 1949
3. Little School Mouse 1954
4. Muscle Beach Tom 1956
5. Neapolitan Mouse 1954

7. Vanishing Duck 1958
8. Haunted Mouse
9. Hic-cup Pup
10. Cat Above The Mouse Below, The
11. Bodyguard, The
cheers,

Just purchased two more Tom and Jerry cartoons released by Derann and in re-reading this thread thought I'd bump it back into the present because this is a great example of the dedication collectors put into this hobby. Winbert's Walton box art is better than Walton's original and the lists from other collectors are an inspiration. Perhaps I will get to these dizzy heights some day...
