The control knob on this projector when I turned it the other day, suddenly became loose and now doesn't do anything and has lost the 'resistance' it had and doesn't switch any functions.

My guess is that the plastic collar on the knob which goes onto the control shaft has split. If you can't repair it, replacements are available. See here http://shop.van-eck.net/PP-0142.html
