I've recently used some new Bonum cases and reels/spools that I've had for a while. I've employed the included small 'pods' (because they were there), but does anyone hereabouts know how effective they are in protecting the film in the case? If so, for how long do they last, and might those little silicone(?) sachets that are found packed in some electrical items and such be effective elsewhere, if added to film cans and boxes? Thanks, as always, for your ideas!

I must admit I don't know anything about the pods with Bonum spools, so I can't help with this query.
However, with regard to the packets which you describe, these are silica gel. They are used to keep out moisture. They are normally packed with electrical apparatus for transit from abroad. The idea is to keep out any moisture that might be present in a long journey.
Therefore, I consider they should not be used with film storage in case they could dry out the natural moisture in a film.
