I have been away from film for a while due to travelling and moving around a lot, but I am getting back into the loop (pun intended).
I dug out my old sankyo 701 projector and gave it a clean and i kept all my films and audio cassettes in a briefcase. I shoot much digital and i have a well backed up 8TB array of virtually all photos, video etc that i ever made, in digital form.
Apart from one occasion. In feb of 2013 when i was 18 (got my own place at 16, young but ambitious), me, my mother and sisters got together at my mothers house for the first time since me and my older sister had moved out and lived in different areas of the country.
I took loads of photographs on my iPod. I would sell my iPod but have them in the icloud awaiting redownload. Not yet added to the archive. I did not know icloud purged backups after a time... found that out after she died when i went to retrieve them.
I also shot a roll of super-8 ektachrome 100D, processed it by hand as always and left it on a reel unlabelled.
My mother would pass suddenly in june 2013 a few months later.
I am now 4+ years on, settled in with a partner and all my super 8 films along with my negatives, audio cassettes over several years and all that carefully filed. I decide to show the boyfriend the projector and pull out a reel of unlabelled super 8 to test the newly cleaned projector. Backing music was selected as steve roach - nostalgia for the future.
I put the reel in and was absolutely stunned by what i was watching, emotions of all kinds will come through here. Me, my mother and older sister walking the dogs. Me, my mother and sisters waving and smiling at the camera. My mothers cat escaping out the window, me, my sisters and mother and grandparents all waving at the camera. Me and my mother in the car with my sisters.
All on a 3.5 minute reel of film. All in the nice 100D palette that looks like the colours popping like they do when i astral project. An amazing, timeless movie. Combined while playing this:

I was apsolutely stunned, almost in tears. The last time me, my mother and sisters were together for over two years, months before she died, the only record of which is a reel of ektachrome super-8. All waving at the camera together and going about our stuff.
I want a telecine and interneg/positive print made for backup, im waiting for my sister to return home from abroad as she really wants to see it.
Oddly enough, the projector lamp burned out just after watching it xD
When this is telecined, i will upload it.
An amazing moment, and an amazing find, a time which we had no record of, the last time we were with our mother when she was alive all together. the reel is now labelled with my others <3
And finding that had me order some ektachrome 64T on eBay, and I am hoping kodak resumes production soon. on8mil.com sell some good colour reversal stocks from germany, too.
