On the subject of long black leader for tail work, I have written a lengthly document with pictures. Anyone interested in using twin machines for no-interrupt presentation might be interested.

This is a Microsoft Word/Office 2010 document.

But why mess with the leader? Likely for less cost you could just setup two used Kelmar changeovers from an old cinema to close the electric douser plate in front of the lenses and it would never have a flash of black or see two images on top of each other. You also wouldn't have to cut your tail leader.

What an intriguing idea, especially when my audience and the projectors aren't in the same room. But Brad, how do we mere mortals get ahold of such a thing? And how would you place this out in the open? Any chance of a photo?

Yes Brad, I really want to know how does Kelmar changeovers work? especially with our super 8mm projector, since the start and stop switches are done manually.

Here is one of my Towers the back side of a GS 1200, the electric changeover installed.

The document I wrote is for those who don't want, or would find too technical, the installation of electric changeover. But honestly, it is the best way to do it.

Those who have requested my document will find running the black leader is the 2nd bestway.

Either way you choose requires a little more work to get started. What you decide is of course, up to you.

As a former traditional cinema film projectionist I can honestly state that I always preferred the change-over systems.

I always disliked working with platters and long play set ups.
They took a lot of the skill and of course showmanship out of the job.

Thanks a great little document you have compiled there Chip and you should be proud of it.

I hope some collectors on this forum give it a try.

The only problem might be that the more fussy of collectors may not the idea of having to scratch a single frame of film on their prints.

I am not bothered about this myself.

Anyway well done Chip and thanks for sharing.
Your a true Pro through and through.

Guys

I am not a brain surgeon.

My print of Grease in scope, as well as Ben Hur, has the cue marks in the proper places. All I did was develop a way to measure those cues, and come up with a way of marking the prints that don't have them. And I couldn't be happier. Every time I pop a changeover and run a show the way it was meant to be seen I can';t help but enjoy all of this.

Soon I will write with pictures about the electric changeovers. But I have no clue when I will get it done. Lots going on here at the moment.............
