I built a telecine to capture my super 8, standard 8 and 9.5mm films but which side should the film go through for capturing? Emulsion (matte) side face the camera or the other way? [Confused]

Emulsion should face the imager. This is normal projection orientation for camera-original films (B-wind) such as 8mm, Super-8, 9.5mm and 16mm home movies. These collections will sometimes include A-wind duplicates which were contact printed emulsion-to-emulsion and those will have emulsion away from the lens/imager in projection orientation, but will benefit somewhat from re-orienting during scanning. Those contact dupes will compare poorly to camera-originals no matter what you do, but every little bit helps.
