It was a great show I was welcomed warmly by everyone. I had some confusion with the car pool situation Saturday night going to the restaurant but when you have a lot of people it should be understandable you can get confused, lost in which car to go in. It surprises me certain long term attendees would not respect my point of view about questionable content that was shown. I was passionate about my opinion on the matter and the discussion got heated. I should not be faulted as the one in the wrong or accused of attacking the show. I heard people after cinesea were gossiping behind my back on social media and making me look like the bad guy. They are hoping I would not return next time. The thing is I have a right just like you to state my objection and opinion without being bashed or banished. That includes objecting to the use of heavy cigar smoke near the gathering. This should be a no brainier. Please respect others people's point of views. It's sad that certain attendees treat newcomers to the show this way.

Anyways,I'm defiantly going in April so deal with it.

If Leon goes in April, I will have to make the effort to go as well. I have never met Leon, but have chatted with him so many times on the phone that I regard him as on old friend that I would really like to say hello to in person. If he does attend in April, I think he will be swamped with technical talk (and parts orders) from all the Elmo users. [Smile]

Leon, I've been trying to get you to come to CineSea for years! Now you've got to attend the next show on April 26th so that Paul will join us.

What Brian is referring to when he says "questionable content" are three trailers that were part of a 35mm trailer reel shown at the screening on Saturday night. The first trailer was for the 1970 Michael Wadleigh documentary Woodstock and it contained nudity. The second was for the Peter Sellers film The Magic Christian which had a brief topless scene. The third trailer was for the film Last Tango in Paris. Although that is an X-rated film, there is no nudity at all in the trailer. Actually, there are no scenes from the film either, just a still of Marlon Brando (fully clothed) while critic's quotes appear onscreen.

In earlier private messages, I told Brian that I was sorry he was offended by something that was screened at the show. I explained that we don't have a "no nudity" policy. It's more like a "be considerate of the audience" policy. Brief nude scenes in films are commonplace, so that would be difficult to prohibit.

Brian, although there were no complaints from anyone else, we do want everyone to be comfortable attending the show, so leading up to the next CineSea I will reiterate our "be considerate of the audience" policy.

The cigar smoke issue is new. There were gentlemen smoking outside, but I guess they need to be further away....

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself so that you're already planning a return in April. I look forward to seeing you, along with Mr. Norris & Mr. and Mrs. Adsett!

Doug

First off: R rated films are shown at Cinesea. Films with an R rating contain offensive words and nudity. Since we're supposed to be adults, this should not bother anyone. I would be disappointed if the decision was made to show only G or PG films and trailers as not to offend certain Cinesea attendees.

As for the cigar issue: I was one of "the gentlemen" As a cigar smoker, I never smoke in non smoking areas. Even before the proliferation of smoke free zones, I never arbitrarily smoked in any of my friend homes. I don't even smoke in my home(my girlfriend doesn't like the smell) so I smoke either in my car or on the front deck. The other gentleman in this incident and myself were smoking out side near entrance to the film show. I usually smoke on the balcony, but the hotel (preparing to close for the year) had put the ashtrays in the garage. The other gentleman and myself were outside enjoying our cigars.Never once did either of us simply march into the enclosed room, cigars clenched between our teeth. We tried to be as thoughtful as possible. If we have to sit further away,be an adult and let us know. To portray us as being rude and inconsiderate could be further from the truth.

I think Brian voices legit concerns about content, but you shouldn’t have to change anything other than give a disclaimer about the content. As you said we are all adults, you can leave it up to him if he wants to take part in that particular screening or leave and come back in a few. I grew up in a Christian home. I get it. And this is what we did!

Think of it like a vegetarian friend coming to your barbecue. You aren’t going to deny every other person ribs and burgers, but you are going to have some vegetarian options for them!

Great comments. I would like to point out that all smoking was indeed done outside the screening area. It was only due to the breeze that some smoke made its way to the audience, and I am certain that if someone mentioned this (I did not) to Joe (and he is a gentleman) he would certainly have apologized and moved.

I agree with the idea of content appropriate to the audience and I believe I've seen it in action.

I started bringing my son to CineSea when he was 10 years old. He's 16 now and I've never felt uncomfortable having him sit in on the film shows. I've always felt the guys at the helm were sensitive to having a fifth grader out in the seats.

I think there is also a pretty sharp distinction between occasional partial nudity and outright pornography, and I don't think I need to go in to details here either. Neither my wife or I would like to sit through that with our kid, and trust me: he reaalllly wouldn't like sitting through it with us! (Remember yourself in situations like that..."Ewwww!")

Joe, I hope we can find a way for you to enjoy your cigars.

It sounds like a fun event but I don't like long drives so I doubt I will ever go to one. I wish it was closer.
