Hi, brand new to the forum and also very new to cinematography. I decided a week ago to dig out my dads old 8 mm film stock and projector. The stock is a mixed bag of Standard and Super 8 hence the dual format Eumig. I found the bulb had blown on initial start up so sourced some replacements. I put them in and hey presto she was up and running. I loaded some film having educated myself in the changing of sprockets and gates. All this was done with extreme care winding the claw out of harms way etc. Running the film through there was a definite reluctance to pass the film through the gate. Eventually, I succeeded with Super 8 but not Standard. The film began to run, the sound of relatives long since passed eminated from the speakers, switching to full light the image was a total blur. Adjustment of the knob showing the frame misalignment did nothing. Further investigation and reading leads me to think that the claw prong has at some time been damaged. The claw does not seem to have sufficient length to penetrate the slot in either gate. Also from pictures I have managed to find of other single claw arms they seem longer. So firstly, do you folks who have much greater knowledge than me concur with my thoughts? Secondly, if you do have you any recommendations as to how I might resolve this situation?

Hi Gerald and welcome to the forum.

I had a similar problem with a Eumig 8 series projector but it wasn't the claw that was the issue. Is there any way you can post a picture of the claw with the gates removed? It may help get to the bottom of this. I'm in N. Lancs by the way - welcome to another Lancastrian!

Hi John, thanks for your reply. I tried to upload a shot of the claw and arm earlier but must admit I didn’t understand a word on the page l was directed to on uploads. I have since manged to remove the claw arm from the projector and it does look like I am only left with a stump of the claw. I will try again to understand the upload procedure.

Hi Gerald, I have the same projector.
I remember that something similar happened to an Italian guy, and it was precisely the claw that was broken (despite precautions, only the little base remained).
It's true that the photo could be useful to understand if the problem is there or maybe elsewhere.
