Hiya,

I recently acquired a Chinon 722 XL and I was looking for some advice on using it. This is my first time using a Super8 camera, but I have shot with 16mm before. Im curious about if there is a gelatine filter in it and if it would effect filming because of how old it would be. I also noticed the small screw that would be stored at the bottom of the camera, the one to put into the movie light socket at the top, is missing. So I'm also curious about how to find a replacement or what would work instead of the original part. Any other tips and ticks about shooting with the camera would also be helpful!

The orange filter is in this model of camera, it is only to be seen if in your camera it is not ruined, fallen or similar.
The screw that you describe is the one that closes the battery compartment in the handle?

Your camera was introduced in 1978 and is a fairly simple "Point & Shoot" model with auto exposure for films of ASA 25/40 and 100/160. The speed was automatically set by the camera by reading a notch on the film cartridge.
Unfortunately, the modern films have increased speeds and the camera will not read their speeds correctly. This would result in over exposure of the films.
The amount of light entering the camera could be reduced by the use of neutral density filters.
However, you will have a problem if the built-in 85A filter will not move.
