I tried to replace the bulb in my Eumig 824 Sonomatic and there was simply no way to do it, just not enough room to pull the lamp connector off! So I had to unscrew the Sonomatic assembly and move it out of the way so I could pull the lamp connector off the bulb and nount the new bulb. I can't believe that Eumig intended bulb replacement to require disassembly of the Sonomatic device, but I can see no other way to replace the bulb. What am I missing here?

I bet this is the machine you bought at CineSea, Paul!

-And when I replaced the lamp connectors there, I noticed how thick the new one was, but it was too late to get another one so I finished the job.

I was able to mount the lamp without removing anything else.

Maybe you need to find a thinner socket. This one was recommended for electrical durability, but maybe that came at the cost of being big!

Right on Steve! Yes this is the 824 that I purchased from Gary Crawford at the 2015 Cinesea, can't believe 4 years have gone by so fast. Anyway it's a beautiful machine with great sound and picture and I love the look of it, a most elegant Eumig and now my favourate 800 . You may be right about the connector Steve if its not OEM, but if that's the problem then the OEM connector must have been MUCH thinner. It really is a very tight fit in there.
But I do like your larger connector, if it is more durable. Most of the halogen connectors for MR16 base lamps seem to be really crappy quality, I seem to always be replacing them.

Hi Paul

That's interesting I just checked Steven old 820 that I have been fixing up of late,

I had no problems removing the lamp and its socket together. It does appear to be plenty length of cable to remove the whole thing. I wonder what the difference is between the 820 and the 824 that's causing that problem?...I removed and re-fitted the lamp a few minutes ago here are a couple of photos...

Hi Graham, and thanks for checking your 820. I think the only difference must be the lamp connector that Steve installed at Cinesea, it measures 0.410 ins thick. Could you measure the thickness of the connector in your 820?

Just measured its exactly 0.315in

PS. Had another closer look, anything thicker than that and you wont get it out.

Thanks Graham, so that 0.315 is the maximum thickness for any new replacement connectors. Good reference info.

My Eumig 822 Sonomatic. [Smile]
The socket measures 8 millimeters, I can change the lamp easily, the cable is quite long as Graham says.

I remember the clearances being tight, yet not impossible. I was able to mount the new bulb without removing anything else, although there wasn't clearance to spare.

I dunno! As usual it was a...cool Wildwood day...

The other thing is a very nice wood-handled screwdriver I have: won't stick to your hands when those Wildwood Winds blow! [Wink]

What was funny was Gary was concerned about me working in that cool room. A couple of years earlier I'd replaced a starter on my car laying on the ground when there was snow outside.

-compared to that scenario this was like an afternoon in a hammock!

I still have two of those connectors: guess I should use them in some other machine than my own Eumig!

I have a pristine 824 complete in its original box with all accessories and paperwork. I suggest that everything is original.
Just measured the depth of the lamp-holder. It's 8mm.
The available space from the rear of the lamp-holder is also 8mm.

Don't forget that in the "US" they are still using the old imperial [Smile] they never changed to metric.

8mm=0.31496063.....better just to say 0.315inch.

Apart from the US does anyone still use it? [Smile]

Paul,

Best wishes from South Wales - I have two 824 sonomatics and to change the bulb on both all I have to do is unclip the retaining clips and move them to one side and the lamp holding becomes free and i just pull out the dead lamp and replace and reposition the new lamp once connected and put the retaining clips back in place

That's because you have an 824 which has the correct lamp holder. As mentioned previously, Paul's projector did not.
