Hello there,
I have just purchased an Elmo SP 8mm projector. It makes a funny sound which seems to come from a disk (?) in front of the shutter blade.

I have posted a video online:

There also seems to be a noticeable flicker on the image. What could be the cause of the noise? Any advice would be much appreciated.

May I suggest you first clean off the old grease from all the moving parts, and then re-lubricate.
The revolving disk (?) seems to be part of the cam assembly which operates the in/out/up/down mechanism of the claw.

Dear Maurice,
Many thanks for replying. As I am a novice regarding projector mechanisms... shall I presume Q-tips and alcohol? What kind of lubricant would you recommend?

Yes. To remove the old grease use Isopropyl Alcohol and apply with Q Tips/Cotton Buds. To reach all round the gears you may need to turn over the mechanism by gently pulling on the motor drive shaft.

When all "muck" is removed you can re-lubricate as follows:-

1) Light sewing machine oil for the bearings.
2) White lithium grease for the gears.
