just wondered if you plan to offer a redubbing service for the 4 x 400ft UFA films in the future?

Hi Dave, nothing planned right now on my end. Recreation of soundtracks and redubbing rely on new entries in my personnal collection. I still have many titles to redub and none of the Little Dragon's films are at the top of the list right now. But you never know...

I have already english dvd-versions of Big Boss, but
have two problems to release that,
1. I have no time at the moment to make a digital digest on my
pc.
2. I have no good facility to rerecord it from pc to super8.

Hi Jean Marc and others,
I know this is somewhere here in this forum, but how are the soundtracks to these digests/shortened versions done?
Is the entire movie put into the computer via DVD and then edited to match the super 8 print using an editing program? And in order to match it, is a video of the Super 8 print made and then put into the computer as well to make sure the new soundtrack cut matches the super 8 print frame for frame? If this is done like this..it must take some work! Info? Points to previous links?

I have re-dubbed 4 x 400 foot versions of "The Chinese Connection" and "Return of the Dragon". I did it using the primitive method of connecting the audio-out of the VCR to the AUX-IN of my Sankyo projector. Then, alot of stop and go with the projector.

It was very time consumming. I did one reel per day. Each reel took between one to two hours to do.

The edits make so hard. Its much easier to do complete shorts, like cartoons and full scenes. But, in the end, it was worth it.

Alan: yes, this is how it's done. As Nick says, a reel per day is a good average if you have nothing else to do which is rarely the case.

Alan,

the point is, that at first the german super8 version have to be digitalize perfectly. One video frame for one 8mm frame. It doesn´t work to film the print from a screen with a video cam only, because of the 25 / 24 fps difference.

If I make a source of a video or dvd, at first I have to make mpg file, then an avi-file from the mpg file. Often I have to split the films in more files. For these purposes my pc needs a lot of time. But I need my PC for my job, so I can´t let him do it. :-)

Alan, good luck. It's a lot of work but it's a lot of fun. And very gratifying once you've mastered the whole thing. Then you'll see how great the track can become when you work on overlapping sound effects, fade-ins and fade-outs in order to avoid abrupt drops in the whole track, extracting dialogues in order to create voice over effects on shots that don't feature voices in the original film, an so on and so forth...

For instance, when recreating the french track for Empire strikes Back, I was able to add the "I am your father" line which is missing from the original Ken cut-down.
