Barry, there are two LURE OF THE CIRCUS prints, both thrillers (dramatic shorts), the 1918 release has Noble Johnson & Eddie Polo, while the 1917 one has Doc Crane and Kewpie Morgan - I think the one you are interested in is the former from 1918
With a circus background (and atmosphere) of a booming oil field, the excerpts or highlights revolve around Eddie Polo a/k/a Somers, the hero, part owner of the great western circus and noted trapeze artist, who finds himself in the middle of one near-serious diaster after another in a fight for his share of the circus against near-insurmountable odds, but also takes on enemies of his Father who seek to ruin the elder man's good fortune in an oil field venture
I have a nice print of FILM FIRST, scored/narrated from Blackhawk - Chapter 1 encompasses the earliest recorded dilm from Griffith, Sennett, The First Kiss, Gertie, melies and much more - Chapter 2 continues the historical perspective running the gamut with McKay's Gertie again, Lost World, Griffith again and Melies. Also an important (and excellent) British film; Possibilities of War in the Air - Also early westerns segments, Tarzan, and the such
Hope all this might help, Cheers from Shorty
