Anybody ever run across any Godzilla films in super 8?
I'm an avid collector of all things Godzilla and own several LDs(many from Japan) and DVDs of course, among many other types of memorabilia.
I have a few Ken silent digests, but never see anything with sound or color. And those digests are not really good prints for the most part. I have a 200ft from the film "Ghidrah" that cannot be focused and I have a 200ft from "Destroy All Monsters" that is almost completely washed out!
I read somewhere on this forum of someone owning the original "Godzilla" and someone else saying they had "Ghidrah" as a feature(wow, what I wouldn't give for that...)

If anyone is looking to cleanse themselves of any Godzilla prints, please let me know [Smile]

Hi Patrick,

There are a couple of print of differents films of Godzilla edited by Marketting and UFA, with German sound. Some titels: King Kong Vs Godsilla ( 3x400ft); godzilla todespranke.

I think that you can perhaps find someone on ebay.de or on the web site:
www.mediavana.de

Good luck.

Regards,

Jean-Christophe.

Patrick,

Here's a link from a few years back that lists the Godzilla films out on Super 8mm.
My Ken Films silents of "Ghidrah", "Battle of the Monsters" (both in scope!) & "Godzilla vs. The Thing" are all pretty decent prints. My "Ghidrah" feature is now slightly faded and the quality varies with the German prints.

Patrick....here on this forum a Dan Pinto reviewed his super 8 print of Godzilla....a german print available at that time through Classic. It's in the index of reviews here. Problem was it was the original Japanese uncut version, but dubbed in German with no English subtitles.....but he said he loved it.

It's funny, my 200 foot color sound print of Destroy All Monsters, still has all its color and is an excellent print. My 8 year old daughter loves it.
There are also trailer reels around with Godzilla trailers and such. I have a lovely print released by Canterbury films in the U.S. back in the 70's of the original Godzilla...nice print and lots of the action scenes and close up of Raymond Burr.

Good luck in your quest.
I started collecting 16mm in 1971 and had been looking for a print of Godzilla until this past year when I finally found one. It doesn't appear on lists very often and when it does, there is a fast response to it. I had always either missed it, or called too late....or it was far beyond my means.

On that score you might have better luck finding some of the Godzilla features in 16mm..( usually faded)...they show up fairly often on Ebay.
Good luck in the hunt for Godzilla films. They are out there, but , like Godzilla, may be hard to bring to the surface and capture.

My copy of "Destroy All Monsters" is beautiful as well. Also I have "Terror of Mechagodzilla". The copy is good.
"Godzilla vs. King Kong" 3 x 400 print is faded a little but a blast to have.
Godzilla looks great on the Big Screen. I was going to get "War of the Gargantuas" but I have heard that all the copies have turned. Sigh.
Hats off to Andreas for getting me these titles! [Smile]

Wow I never knew there was any 8mm on King Kong Vs.Godzilla. I'd love a scope two or three reel digest of that one. It's such a silly , fun film. My mom took me to see it when it first came out. In was in Memphis ..and the local tv horror host, Sivad, (Davis spelled backwards..he ran the Malco theater..the best in town)...did a live show before the film. I remember being very impressed with the squid sequence...and then totally being appalled at Kong....it was just awful. An amateur theater group could have made a better Gorilla suit....even the color was all wrong. The rest of the film was , for me, a comedy...and as such..was good. My mom took me to see it again when it hit the second run theaters.

I'm curious.
This 3x400 KK vs Godzilla was a German release with German sound, right?
Is this a dub from the US release or the original Japanese?

BTW, that film in its original Japanese release was meant to be a bit lighthearted with some very good comedy unseen in the US version as well as the very serious Godzilla attack scenes. Quite a mixed bag!
One of the best-in its original form.

German sound on the Godzilla vs. King Kong. And sadly..its flat not scope. But still...the big G on Screen..the only way to see him!!
Now if I could only find Ultraman on Super 8....

Ultraman on Super 8! I wonder if it exists.
I have a DVD box set of the first season and they are very entertaining. The Godzilla suit even makes an appearance.
Cheers

Wow! Thanks for the shout out! There are many Godzilla titles. The only ones you cant find in Super 8 format are Godzilla Raids Again, Monster Zero, Godzilla Vs Sea Monster and Godzilla's Revenge. Of course I'm only going up to the original series, which ended in 1975.

Toho did license 50ft color/silent Super 8 reels, for the japanese martket, although I dont know if all titles were released. I have a 50ft Destroy all Monsters, which does have a few snips not included with the Ken version.

Occasionally you'll see trailers for Godzilla KOTM, Godzilla Vs Megalon(Cantebury Films)which is a full theater trailer. War of The Monsters(Godzilla Vs Gigan), Monsters From An Unknown Planet(Terror Of Mechagodzilla), these are Toho trailers dubbed in English for International release.

One of the Rarest of all is the Dutch King Kong Vs Godzilla, 3x400, which is in English language, and scenes differ from the German language version. I have made a custom version from both that runs about 65 minutes long!

There is also a 2x400 of War Of The Gargantuas, but the cult song "The Words Get Stuck In My Throat" is not part of the package.

Too bad Rodan was never released color/sound.

I have heard rumors of a 400ft color, German language Godzilla Vs The Thing. Anybody ever heard that one?

Dan
