Does anyone sell plain white film boxes for 8mm reels? Back in the 1980's I remember buying boxes for reel sizes ranging from 50' all the way up to 400'. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers all,
Douglas [Smile]

Douglas,

 -

Derann sells one piece white cardboard boxes (pictured above) in 200', 400' and 600' sizes.
Steve Osborne at The Reel Image may still have some of the cardboard hinged types. Try calling him at 937-296-9036.

And Spectra is selling them for 200ft and 400ft reels:

Cheers for this info. Been trying to source more white, hinged boxes for ages.

Does Dave Thomas ever reply to e-mails? I have e-mailed about his 400ft white hinged boxes so many times but never got a single reply.

Tried to source them elsewhere via Elmar Plastics but they wanted a minimum order of 20,000. I have a fair few films but not that many.

Thanks for the Bags Unlimited info. If you buy 25 boxes from them it works out cheaper than getting them from Dave Trappist Thomas.

Dave does reply. Here is a link to his 200' boxes on EBay. Try messaging him. He usually responds fast.

I could not find a price on the El Mar Plastics website so I e-mailed them.

Their reply: "Due to changes in demand for these products they have been discontinued and we have no stock. Special orders can be quoted for quantities of at least 20,000 pcs."

Has anybody actually bought any recently?

Is this the correct website?

I have had problems getting communications out of David, too. That's not to say he's of bad repute -- he's totally trustworthy. But unless you are so blessed as to hear from him, your best bet is to simply buy the stuff he has listed, as is.

Haven't purchased from MomentCatcher, but love the site, and had a really good email exchange a few months ago.

Ignoring communication from people trying to give you money is not exactly sterling repute to shout from the rooftops about. No response over four years is pretty shabby in anyone's book. You say he'll dignify you with the basic, common courtesy of a reply if you buy something first. What sort of repute do you call that? If a seller does not wish to respond to messages from overseas, they should not claim to deal "worldwide", it's a pretty big planet.

From a June 2008 forum posting.....

Hello,

Does anyone know if Dave Thomas (Super8movieman on eBay) has a website proper? If so, what is the web address? Contacting him via eBay is pointless, nobody ever replies. I have e-mailed his eBay shop on and off over the past 18 months and never received a reply. A friend of mine also tried and heard nothing so I wondered if he only sold from eBay but communicated from elsewhere.

Not sure, can't be more that a couple of dollars - You know, I often get about half-dozen or so and seldom read the invoice. Sounds silly, but that's me, and I'm just happy with the product

Thanks, that's OK if you need a few but quite pricey if you want a lot. Simpler to source them from where dealers like Dave 'Can't Be Bothered To Give Someone The Courtesy Of A Reply To Their E-mail But Happy To Take Their Hard Earned Money' Thomas buys them wholesale.

Mr. Black above says El Mar Plastics sell them at 38 cents each (for 200), unfortunately, I cannot find this pricing on their site:
