Hi,

I would be interested to know if there is a publication or web site that gives details on prices of collectible super 8 movies. I am new to this and just wanted to get an idea of which films are more expensive to buy and why. I would be grateful for any advice or information.

Thank you

Paul Brandes

Paul, this forum and ebay prices are a good guide. Once prices were set more on the length of the film, now it is much more on the title itself and the condition.

If you brouse the for sale section here, the films that have sold will tell you what people are prepared to pay. Some features I have not been able to sell for $20.00, others I can not buy for for $300!

There is more info than ever around to compile a price guide, so maybe someone will do it one day. Of course there are all the dealers, have a brouse through their lists. Remember that they will command a higher price than an individual will often be able to bring.

Hi Paul,

If you can be more specific to what type of movies is your interest, perhaps more input can be given. For example, I can say that;

Cartoon
Tom & Jerry (200", Color, Sound, Walton/MGM) = $4-$8
Tom & Jerry (200", Color, Sound, Derann/Red Fox) = $10-$18
All Univ-8/Castles 200" Col, Sound (Woody, Andy Panda, etc) = $3-$8

Comedy
Three Stooges (400', B/W, Sound) = $12 - 22 (except for certain titles)
Little Rascals/Our Gangs (200", B/W, Sound) = $7 - 15
Little Rascals/Our Gangs (400", B/W, Sound) = $9 - 21
Laurel & Hardy (400", B/W, Sound) = $7 - 18 (except for certain titles)

etc...etc...

But always there is a disclaimer that one or two titles might be more due to the rarity. And there is always +/- $3 from the above price guide for the physical condition (fade color, sprocket damage, no OB, OB not good, splices, dark print, etc).

Give us here what is your interest, more input I believe will be given (if you can go with titles, it will be even better).

cheers

Hi Winbert,

Thanks for the imformation. As an example, would it be possible to get an idea of what a copy of the following films are worth:

The Sailor (Charlie Chaplin) sound 200ft B&W

THE CHAPLIN MUTUAL COMEDIES all 12 reels (400 ft ea) sound, Genuine Blackhawk prints

I would be grateful for a reply

Regards

Paul

Hi Paul,

I am not a Charlie Chaplin (CC) fans, so I might be wrong.

But I have seen many time CC 400" reels from Blackhawk with several type of box art, such as : yellow background with small chaplins, were sold around $7 - 15 (sound strip for music score). Silent/non sound trip will be much lower.

My conclusion says that CC from Blackhawk is not that expensive. The expensive one is the one released by ... (I forgot the company) where it has a silver background with chaplin b/w photo in the middle. Anyone know the company release this?

regards

RBC released the silver boxed Chaplins. Being as the scored Mutuals hit the market fairly late in the game,$25-$30 per reel is not out of line.

I don't buy that - The Blackhawk (restored) Chaplin Mutuals can command a premium in original boxes, justly to $40@ - Sometimes it all depends on the seller/dealer, and what they charge on average - Film can not have a price guide, like toys, LPs and such, only on-average that I can see - Shorty
