I'm sorry but if anyone pay's that they want their head looking at, at that price the average 4 x 600" Derann feature is worth £1,000.00, the world's gone mental (or greedy) :-(

I think in this case Del it's scarcity and therefore it's attraction as a unique collectable, does set it apart to be fair.

However, this may prove just a little far beyond reach for 600ft of Film for even the most avid collector.

It would certainly place it on parity with a superb Star Wars print in price per foot if it did sell.

Mine has the BBC promotional footage of "Small People" and a trailer before it. I don't see any splice anywhere so I assume they all were printed like this?

It's a while since I have viewed it so I will dig it out now and get back to on this Graham with one or two screenshots.

The only reason this is rare is because Derann loaned the the source material and it got damaged before too many were done, hence the owner didn't lend anything else out.

Yes it's a real shame this was the only one ever produced from the trilogy.

I heard a slightly different tale regarding these Tom but nevertheless whichever the real reason was, there are not many out there that is for sure.

I am running it now and I think there is one very discreet splice inbetween the trailer and the full leader intro to Grand Day Out it would seem.

I had never noticed this previously I have to say, but I have only ran this print on a very few occasions.
It really is stunning print quality I have just realized again, I'd forgotton just how good this one really is!

I do believe more copies were produced than oft stated. I had two prints at one point and know of prints with collectors, typically selling for around £80 with the in built lab faults. Do like the film although not overly a W&G fan have to say.

I think there was way more than 6 prints made but not too many I'm sure.

Id be really interested in finding out what issue there was with some of these apparently.

I do like Wallace & Gromit. I think they are brilliantly created animations with funny storylines and strong characters throughout.

I would have really liked someone to have released The Wrong Trousers" and "A Close Shave".

Both of these would have made 600ft of Super 8mm animated magic in my opinion and would have sat well alongside "A Grand Day Out", The Snowman, Prince & The Pauper etc.

Chicken Run has been on my wish list for quite some time now.
Another brilliantly created feature length animated film.

I don't have a lab fault, the print is wonderful. It may be the best print I own sound wise too. I try very hard to not have that rocket launch while the rest of the household is asleep! (...diplomacy!)

The color is a little paler than the DVD: the Gas Cooker/Robot ...thing is more yellowish white than yellow.

There are way more than six: every time the film is mentioned somebody else says "I have one!".

I remember at least three of 'em on the Derann used list, and can account for three of the six in the Greater New York area alone!

It's been on E-bay three times now that I'm aware of.

-so if there really are only six somebody is pretty dissatisfied with the other three: they are making the rounds!

I would much rather have all three of them and have them be as common as dirt than be the owner of a "rare print". I buy these things to enjoy, not bury out in the yard! That model railway chase sequence in "The Wrong Trousers" is worth the price of admission all by itself!

Why can't I have a dog like this?

I couldn't agree with you more Steve on all points raised there.

I'm really pleased you also have a perfect print there. It'd be interesting if anyone here could enlighten us with a less than perfect one.

Mine is on grey stripe but the sound is still ok in this case.
I cannot say its one of my best and I haven't tried recording this one, but it's more than satisfactory and as you say the bass from the rocket launch sequence is room trembling!

Mine is also grey striped and the sound is fantastic! I guess the problem with this stripe is not so much capability but consistency.

I have "Christmas Caper" and the sound is also very good on gray stripe. The level is low and I have to crank up the gain to get the volume I want. I've thought of having it re-recorded, but better not to roll the dice for the sake of having to twist a knob a little.

I wrote Derann an E-mail praising Grand Day Out and asking when the others would be available.

They said they were happy I enjoyed the film, told me about the negative...incident...and asked me to never mention it in public again.

-10 years later, Derann is gone half a decade, and I still feel a little funny about discussing it!

The very first CineSea (December 2009), we were out to dinner and this print was mentioned . Some at the table had no idea it even existed.

-Not just a film: an enigma!

It was kind of a milestone in film collecting history too. After that Derann never did anything big again. There were a couple of 200 foot cartoons (nice ones, too), but nothing so ambitious.
