Mine is also grey striped and the sound is fantastic! I guess the problem with this stripe is not so much capability but consistency.
I have "Christmas Caper" and the sound is also very good on gray stripe. The level is low and I have to crank up the gain to get the volume I want. I've thought of having it re-recorded, but better not to roll the dice for the sake of having to twist a knob a little.
I wrote Derann an E-mail praising Grand Day Out and asking when the others would be available.
They said they were happy I enjoyed the film, told me about the negative...incident...and asked me to never mention it in public again.
-10 years later, Derann is gone half a decade, and I still feel a little funny about discussing it!
The very first CineSea (December 2009), we were out to dinner and this print was mentioned . Some at the table had no idea it even existed.
-Not just a film: an enigma!
It was kind of a milestone in film collecting history too. After that Derann never did anything big again. There were a couple of 200 foot cartoons (nice ones, too), but nothing so ambitious.
