As a footnote to all my mails about the stereo projectors, it was good to see that so many of the smaller machines have been getting snapped up recently. I do feel more people are getting interested in the hobby and getting involved in something completely different.

Yes its certainly different!

Although my Wife and I have been up and down to the hospital this week as she is not so good, we have still found time to check out some new super 8 prints. I am amazed at the print quality we get today from Derann. I picked up a new trailer reel which someone had purchased two of and Derann have secured top quality. Frankly, its just like being sat at our local movie house.

Having recently ordered a few films from Derann which are now being printed I am looking forward to viewing very much indeed. And even someone new to home CINEma with a fairly basic projector can enjoy the cinema experience with real film, and a real movie projector. Many of these smaller projectors can be obtained for just a few pounds if you look hard enough. Buy a used screen for few more pounds and a speaker, then you have your own CINEma.

If you are new to Cine and looking for economy entry into home CINEma here are a few machines to look out for just to get you going. Later on you may want a more elaborate super 8 machine.

Bauer T models
Eumig 900 models or 800 range, such as 822 Sonomatic.
Sankyo 700 or 500

All the above are good entry point machines and compact.

You make a good point....it does seem that more people are either starting to have an interest in film and projectors...or are rekindling an old interest. Someone on another thread mentioned the fact that winning bids for many of the Super 8 prints on Ebay lately have been a much higher levels than in the past. Someone out there is buying them....there is more bidding and there are higher prices. A double edged sword, no doubt, for , on the good side, it means more folks are into the hobby,which may encourage film suppliers to expand releases,...but , of course, it means we old time collectors may have to shell out more money for used films and equipment.

Have noticed that at the conventions that there have been much interest by students. And have spoken to a few generally while I have been scouring the stalls. Its seems yes there is a interest ig shooting on film again and collecting films. Did show a fellow worker a Super 8 camera because he was interested in film in general. He was amazed by the camera because he had only ever shot on videotape. I agree it can be very cheap to start up and show films. My Elf 16mm projector was bought at the Ealing Bring & Buy stall for £45 complete with elf scope bracket. I just had to replace the belts and regrease the cork clutch on take up arm. Have seen some bargain 8mm projectors on e-bay as well.
