Im looking for an Elmo ST-1200 projector from a US seller. If anyone has one they would like to sell or know someone who does please let me know. Ive been looking on ebay but have not had any luck.

you could check with leon norris he may have one all fixed up and ready to go, or phil johnson he is expensive but he reconditions them to like new here is phils website if anybody can help me with leons number that would be appreciated.

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately the projectors on the website are way out of my price range, I would be interested in hearing how much the other guy is selling his for if he has one available. I was watching the ebay auction but when I emailed him and asked if he would be interested in doing a buy it now I received this response back:

"Everything works as far as I know. I could not get the reels to move, but one of my photo assistants says it needs film in it I know nothing about it, I have 2 reels but no film."

It sounds to me like it must have a broken belt, but im new at all of this so im not sure. If that was the case how much do you think it would be worth in that condition? Is it easy to replace a belt?

Hi Jason. It might not need a new belt. It may be worth asking if, when the seller switched it on, did he turn the switch to position 2? The reel will not move until you do this. It will not need a film in it for the rear reel to move. It only has two lamp intensities - not three - the first position is "off". Also will only take Super 8mm, not Regular 8 as the seller claims. Apart from that it looks to be in fine condition. Regards Keith

I have restored a number of Elmo projectors - mostly 1200's

The worst case scenario when the projector motor runs but nothing moves is not broken belts - its melted belts.

I have one projector I needed to disassemble almost entirely in order to remove the 'black-goo-from-hell'

If anyone here has seen Creepshow and the 'Raft' scene with the black goo, its much like that. Leon Norris will tell you all about it as well. The belts often 'look' liek normal square belts, however when you touch them you see it is really a sticky black goo with a consistency similar to the jelly inside a jelly bean.

So broken belts are no big deal, around 20~30 bucks depending on where you get them and about an hour or less to change them in.

If you have black goo figure on about 20~30 hours of work - and its very messy - bring lots of alcohol and disposable rags.

IMHO everything on Phils site is way overpriced. You'd do better to get a junker and fix it yourself - that way you save money and learn how to fix things on your own. Be careful, Phil sells treated 35mm films and claims treating films causes no problems.

Leon Norris is one of the best. He is very experienced and always willing to lend a hand or share information. He is the only one I trust to work on my GS1200 other than myself. I have sent dozens his way and they all come back happy. Give him a call at 610 275 1225 and tell him I sent you [Smile]

Thanks for all of the help. I emailed the seller back to see if he had turned the switch into the second position. If he replies back and tells me they still dont turn what do you guys think would be a reasonable offer for a projector with either a broken or melted belt?

I think because some of us know how to fix machines, Phil's prices are a little high. But its the same when I tell a mechanic I need to fix something on the car. He always tells me that the auto places charge to much. Hey...why don't I put in the distributor myself?
Because.. I don't want to and its worth it to me to have someone else do it and if there's anything wrong..Phil will stand behind his products. If I couldn't fix them myself..I would definitely give Phil's website a look! Plus..its good for the hobby to have that website up.
Now back to your question...you can offer around $75-100 for a nice Elmo ST1200HD without belts. That's what I've offered in the past. Good luck!

I found another projector on ebay but it dosnt have the power cord. I have an Elmo 16mm CL does anyone know if they use the same cord? If not does anyone know where I could find a cord that would work?

ST1200HD will take the same power cord as a standard PC type power cord.

I believe 1200D's (and maybe others models as well) take a similar cord only it not as 'tall' so you cannot use a standard PC power cord without shaving it down ... which is not a great idea. The 1200D type cords are also very hard to find, at least when I last looked.

I finally got one, I won the one with broken belts off of ebay. I ordered a set of new belts so hopefully I can get this thing up and running pretty quickly. I was wondering though if anyone knew of a reasonably priced place to get 1200' and 800' reels?

Hello, I can say that the seller for the Elmo ST1200 HD currently on eBay has a gem of a machine. I know him personally, and he can without fail ( as long as he has parts), repair ANY type of Elmo machine. He used to do repairs for Elmo in NY 30 years ago and hasen't lost his touch. He's an honest seller and has amazing knowledge not only on Elmo, but just about any projector. Eumig; Bauer--you name it. I have that machine already, and it's worth every penny at $350.00. It comes with standard 1.3 lens, but can opt for 1.1. --John

I got the projector and new belts in the mail today. I opened the projector up and realized I dont have a clue what Im doing. Does anyone know of a place where I could find step by step instructions on changing these belts?
