1600' plastic reel and can in good condition from the Plastic Reel Corp of America and Racine Extend-a-Reel. Obviously the reel could accomodate either reg 8mm or super 8mm film but it looks like the reel itself is for a reg 8mm projector (are the centers of these reels swapable if you have a super 8mm center? Looks like it may be). $29 plus shipping in the USA.

Correct me if I am wrong but it looks like a square hub, which tells me it for 16mm?

Sorry to say Kevin, that this reel will not fit in any Super 8mm nor Standard 8mm projector although the thickness of reel is indeed 8mm (3/8 inch).

It has been discussed here just recently when Akshay acquired his films in this reel and need to re-spool onto normal reels.

I am wondering now if there used to be 8mm projector but using 16mm spindle ? if yes, what brand was it?

cheers,

Thanks for the link, I had no idea about the history behind this reel. Sounds like it is pretty unusable for 8mm users out there.

If I remember right, there was a Extend-a-Reel set-up which was used with this reel. The reel itself was for 8mm and Super 8 (not 16mm)
