Hi All.

I am considering buying an RCA 400 60Hz model projector with the intention of running it here in Australia. I have the necessary stepdown tranny, but am unsure as to whether the lower frequency power supply will either affect the running speed and/or the motor longevity.

My question is this- Could I run the 60hz RCA 400 on 50hz power without overheating the motor or altered running speed?

Also, would anyone know the mechanical/electrical difference between the 50hz and 60 hz models of these machines?

Cheers
Ian

RCA's originally had governor type motors which I believe will run at the proper speed, but at some point in the 1950's they switched over to induction motors which will definitely run off speed. One way to tell which you're getting is that the governor type 400 Seniors had a small silver grille on the front side of the case where the reel arms attach. The induction models do not. On the amp I can't help you.

Thanks for that info, Jeff.

I'll keep an eye on that should I get one of these beauties.
