All my movies (just about anyway) has this annoying sound in the background. Magnetic films doesn't have this. How affected is the sound if either the lens for the optical is dirty/hairy or whatever or the film is dirty? There's a kind of rumbling. This is both on my Super 8 Elmo ST-1200D MO and my Bauer P7 Synchro 16mm. If it's dirty film, how to clean it?

Thanks

Have you tried cleaning the lens of the optical reader ? (Q-tip and rubbing alcohol are good for that too...)

Actually not sure how to get to it ... It's behind a plastic cover I have no idea how to remove (I think it's behind there anyway)

Remove the exciter lamp (that’s the small one that light up/twists out) and you will see a small lens next to it. Give that a careful clean as instructed but finish off with a AIR DUSTER which will blow away and small particles from either side of the lens.

Same thing when cleaning the projectors gate, clean with a gate brush then finish with air duster.

Vidar, if annoying sound persist, change the exciter lamp on both machines. This - generally - solves a lot of things.

Will try that too. They do light up okay, but I have no idea if they should be stronger. Glowing if movie not running, lights up when movie runs. Will try cleaning, then change the lamp (16mm lamp is in the mail, so can't check that)
