Anyone ever experience film wear problems with the high speed rewind through the open film path on an Eiki 3580. I've been using a B&H 1585 and of course it rewinds across the top of the projector. I've got my Eiki maintained and am ready to use it for the first time.

I do not own an Eiki, and I do not recommend rewinding through the film path.
Film can have many variances, as well as dust or accumulation in the path, and this would surely be an opportunity for anything to dislodge, rub and free itself back onto the soft emulsion of the film stock.
Just my two cents worth.

Hey Dan, although designed to handle the task wouldn't it rewind a little faster outside the channel? If the supply reel is played through tails then you would rewind reel to reel. I suppose if you had a choice I'd opt for reel to reel rewind especially with fuller heavier reels . . seems easier on the clutch.
