Can anyone kindly give me any information on this machine - for example, what the controls are likely to be (several unlabelled knobs) and how to access the interior?

Last call please - got the belt drive working from previous experience but there is a rear drive gear on the projector which is just idling, it's cable should be driving the top arm sprocket. Any ideas?

Well, the top arm is the rewind arm. Many older projectors required that you only put the belt on that arm when rewinding. You'd put the belt on and then put the projector in reverse. Ampro also had a mechanism on the lower arm that would release the belt on the lower arm thus letting that reel spin freely during rewind.

The rear upper belt is for rewind and the front (operator side) upper belt is for takeup when the projector is running in reverse. In order to rewind, the projector must be in reverse and the button on the rear of the projector pushed in. It should stay locked in but that doesn't always happen.
