I have purchased an EIKI SL1 projector and it is working well. It has a three blade shutter. I transferred some 16 mm sound film using my Canon XA10 camcorder at 24p (24 fps) and 1/24 s shutter. Result was flicker free. Then with the same settings, I transferred some 16 mm silent film and there is a flicker. (edit) First I thought it was a difference of fps or different frame size, but it looks like the frame sizes for 16 mm with sound and 16 mm silent (sprocket holes on both sides) are identical. I am pretty sure the EIKI is projecting both films at 24 fps. So the slow flicker or shifting dark band rolling through the video is some artifact of the lack of synchronization, but it only appears in one of the two film conversions. The silent film is black and white and has more contrast, which may make the effect more noticeable. Any thoughts? [ July 04, 2013, 01:05 PM: Message edited by: Claude Lyneis ]
