Just been checking one title from the newly acquired collection. It's a film from the 50s which contains many diagonal cement splices (all in perfect condition.)
I always thought diagonal splicing was used for magnetic film joining, I can't see any advantage is using it for optical/picture prints as some parts of each frame are present. It may be because there is no overlap on the perforation, but this is only a guess.
