Hi Elyas,
this topic comes up alot on the forum and even I've asked it ... there is no cure for VS but there are way to slow it down or mask the smell.Filmguard and other cleaners will lessen the smell but it will slowly get worse and then time to bin it!
I have a Chimps Jamboree 16mm B/W silent that was warped when I got it,however after a year or so I went to screen it and it now has VS and badly warped film! I've replaced it and binned that old copy.
Seems a waste but it's the only solution in the end as far as I know. [Frown]

send it back or you could spray it with furniture polish that will take out the smell but will never get rid of it and will go worse ,maybe its time to bin it

One question: I have a film affected & badly warped; I plan to run it through my projector to try & film it on screen with a camera so I can kind of 'digitise' & save it. It's fine for the projector--so won't affect other films I run through,no?

Personally if I wanted to run a vinegar print through a projector, I would make sure I never ran a good film through it afterwards and keep it just for those.

If it was me though, I`d send it back or ask for a refund and bung it in the bin, quick, quick.

With all due respect to other fine opinions, I have no issue with running VS prints through the same projector so long as the film path is cleaned and there's brief time elapsed so any miniscule residual acetic acid can air out. Unless it's a polyester print, in which case it doesn't matter at all.

My print of 'Question 7' also has a very interesting smell!! But it runs perfectly and I've never worried about using the machine afterwards. There's usually a time gap so it has plenty of airing. It's great when you can replace an affected print but it's pretty devastating when no other copies are available or are similarly affected. What with fading colour, V.s. and shrinkage I'm beginning to feel twinges of the dreaded 'digital' coming on!!!. Now what's the antidote for that?

So are we saying a good print can 'catch' VS by being the next film through the projector because I thought on other posts this had been ruled out?
