Agree with above comments. Synchronisers were used to keep picture and sound tracks in sync during editing, although most editing benches would have used a synchroniser with more than two "gangs".

Thank you for the answers. Not easy to really picture how it works but at least I have the idea. The seller doesn't seem to know what it is.
