I have been around 8mm collecting for years, but just recently jump into 16mm league.

So I have a couple questions that you may think is too coomon...but here we go.

I am in a possibility to get a brand new (NOS) Elmo scope lens designed for Elmo 16CL which is my projector now. The box clearly stated "for Elmo 16CL".

So my questions:

1. Is it a good lens, compared to Kowa or Sankor?
2. Can I use this lens for super 8mm projector Elmo ST-1200/GS-800/GS-1200 without any vignetting?
3. Can Elmo 16CL's bracket to be attached to the above 8mm projectors?
4. Although it is a brand new lens, without any scratch, but I saw a small fungus. Can we clean it without professional tools and knowledge?

What I found this lens is shorter, while I was offered with bigger and longer lens. The price on Ebay is also so pricey (EUR 390.00), how many type of Elmo scope lens were available at that time?

6. Last but not least, this lens (on NOS condition with the OB still intact and nice) were offered to me for $175 (eqv. Euro 150 or £135), do you think is a good offer or just skip it?

Hello Winbert, my answers to your Elmo lens questions are as follows:

1. Elmoscope lenses are excellent quality - made by Kowa then checked / recalibrated by Elmo to ensure the best optical alignment.

2.The pictured lens is ideal for Super 8 and 16mm use as it has a short barrel length so will give the minimum vignetting.

3. The bracket shown will fit to Elmo 16mm projectors such as the 16F 16A 16AA 16AL etc. and using the extra piece will attach to the Elmo 16CL. I don't know if the bracket will fit a GS1200 or ST1200 but brackets for 52mm rear barrel diameter 'scope lenses for Elmo Super 8 projectors are available to buy.

4. Internal fungus on 'scope lenses can be more of a problem than with projector lenses as it may need disassembly that will affect the alignment of the front and rear lens elements - also what you perceive to be fungus may be de-lamination (the lens parts coming unstuck from each other) which is a whole different level to fix - it can be done but is risky for the non professional.

5. This means you have been offered an Elmoscope I lens which is the same as a Sankor 16D - personally I think you will find this is OK on the 16CL with up to a 38mm prime lens but will vignette with any lens of a lower focal length / bigger picture. You really want to look for an Elmoscope II lens which is the same as a Kowa 8z / 16H and much better for all gauges without vignetting.

6. If the lens comes with both the bracket parts then it is still good to go for at £135 as you will need both parts to fit it to an Elmo 16CL. If it has only one part then it will not fit the 16CL but will fit the 16A etc. You may find the lens will screw straight onto the front of the 50mm or 38mm prime lens and not need a bracket at all - best to ask the seller first.

PS: The excellent Isco lens you posted about ages ago may well screw straight onto your 16CL prime lens - give it a try you may save yourself some money if it does - it is likely the clip on plastic lens cover of the projector will not fit over the 'scope lens fitted directly to the prime lens without some modification.

Pls allow me to ask more.

Exactly this is an Elmoscope I (Sankor 16D). So what do you think the quality of this lens? I wish this can also be used for super 8mm projector (at ST1200 or GS1200)

My Elmo 16CL's prime lens is a fixed lens with 50mm.

Yes you are right, the lens has barrel that can be attached to the prime lens without any bracket

Now, if I buy this lens and re-sell the bracket separately to anyone who is interested, what do you think is the fast sale price for this bracket?.

I am just measuring the budget I need to spend for my starter in this 16mm league.

Hello Winbert

The Elmoscope I (Sankor 16D equivalent) is a good quality lens but more suited to 16mm projection where longer focal length lenses are the norm. You will find it OK for use with the 50mm and 38mm Elmo 16CL lenses but it will vignette with anything that produces a larger 4:3 picture.

Using it on a GS1200 or ST1200 will be limiting zoom range wise - the rule to use is for bigger picture projector lenses the anamorphic size needs to be short and wide ie: wide barrel and glass diameter and short barrel length to stop the image hitting the inside walls of the anamorphic lens barrel (aka vignetting).

The anamorphic you spoke about in this thread:

is really to best lens available for Super 8 and 16mm use so really you already own the optimum lens for your needs and it will screw straight onto the Elmo 16CL prime lens.

Bracket wise if you do buy the ElmoscopeI and don't want the brackets I would be interested in them (must be both brackets though) for use on my Elmo 16CL xenon. I have an Elmoscope II without the brackets so it would be nice to complete the set.

Price wise the two piece bracket set to me is worth £50 (plus extra for postage of course) if you do get it and want a quick sale.

These are listed several specific brackets, also with adaptor rings, so it these fit mosts of the lenses out there.

If you can't find the bracket for your projector, please let me know!

We are currently working an brackets for the Bauer P6/P7/P8 series.

I think we can make a deal. Postage will not that expensive, I bet, as they must be less than a Kg.

To avoid the mistake, can you post pictures of the very bracket you need, so I will see if this bracket suits for you.

Many thanks and yes please to the deal for the brackets - I'm ready to proceed if the brackets you have look like these ones:

There are two pieces - the circular hinged section on the left shown attached to the lens, and the bracket pictured to the right which attaches to the 16CL - I definitely need both of these for my projector.

Yes, as you can see on the picture, it also works with the zoom-lens!

So, this is the improvement we did compared to the original scope holders for the Bauer 16mm projectors.
