I wonder if anyone can point me in the direction of a replacement cutting blade for an M2 CIR splicer. I have sharpened the blade a number of times, but it is now near the end of life. Wittner`s used to stock these (at an inflated price) but no longer list them. Any help appreciated. David

David I too have been trying for some time to get a replacement blade with the same result. However, I did manage to download a copy of the official detailed instructions for the the use and servicing of CIR M2/M3 splicers. This makes interesting reading since it states that the blade should never be sharpened! Instead it details how to strip down and clean the U blade to remove the build up of adhesive residue from the inside which causes the blade to "drag" and make a less than clean cut. I tried it and was pleased with the result. My splicer now works as it should with a neat cut. If you haven't tried this method it might be worthwhile until you can locate a new blade. (Let me know if you do!). The procedure is straightforward with no need for tools. David

Alternatively PEC in London have them David - have a look through their Film Editing section - some good prices on CIR splicing tape rolls and plastic archival cans too:
