Hi, Just bought a 16mm Splicer with tape , but it is for perforations on both sides of 16mm ( silent films )... Can I fix it to use it only for sound movies ? If yes anybody knows how to make the other side of the film where the soundtrack is will not be perforated? I can not return it , so try to adapt it for sound 16mm splicing if possible, Thanks, Gilbert

Is your splicer the large size CIR?
The deluxe models have a knob which turns to move the pins to show:-
1) Two for silent films
2) One for sound firms
3) No pins to help with shrunken film

If your CIR splicer has a 6 tooth tape punch (three teeth either side of film), you could carefully grind the unwanted teeth from the removable punch. Great care should be excercised in re-seating the modified punch set, but could resolve the problem!

I am sorry that I did not fully understand your comments, but having seen the picture, it reveals a discontinued model from CIR. It is known as "M3 16mm 2T Double Perf Special (INC 48)".
I agree with David's suggestion that you should dismantle the cutting assembly and cut off the relevant punches.

If you do not have a manual for a CIR splicer you can get one from Film-Tech as below. It explains how to dismantle the splicer. It may help you.

I was able to convince the seller to take it back, I only lost the postage ... Thank you for everything. I already discovered a better one for only 10% more than I paid this one. I could have fixed it, but I think it's still better to have a good one. I learned something new. Never too old for that as I had no idea these existed. Thank you so much, Gilbert
