Kodak 16mm prints have a date-code and some potential buyers sometimes request photographic "evidence" of the age of the stock.
But film edges codes aren't the easiest things to capture and so far my attempts at doing so have not been very successful.
Anybody have any tips for doing it efficiently without using a scanner?

That was a good idea - I just improvised with some materials around my shop and voila! got some excellent images of my 1963 Eastman stock from Rochester, NJ.
