Recently I was experiencing an annoying intermittent fault. When projecting film the lower loop would keep expanding until it interfered with the bottom sprocket and caused film damage. I would stop and relace and it would run fine for a while, but then do the same. The bottom sprocket was working fine and I could not work out why, until I noticed that the sound drum was not turning. On investigation I found that the flywheel was almost seized. A few drops of oil on the bearings and problem resolved. My Hollywood projector now working as beautifully as ever. My favourite because it is so quiet in operation, easy to lace/unlace, lovely valve amp, nylon pressure plate and large sprockets, so, kind to film and such an iconic looking Projector. This fault is not confined to RCA's of course, so I hope that this post will help to identify this fault for other 16mm projector owners.
