Just want to wish you all a merry vinegar syndrome day. Didn't know that was a national holiday? Well, it's kinda hard to plan, but I'm unofficially declaring it because our humidity is dipping into the single digits today. So this is a great day to air everything out, then reseal the films that are worth caring about with molecular sieves.

Vinaigrette dressing, anyone?

Bill, what do you mean by "single digit'. What is the percentage of humidity now in CA?

[Razz]

Right now relative humidity is about 8% and dropping as the temperature rises...

WHAATT!...

With the temperature (I read from weather network) in Santa Clarita around 17 C.... I don't know how your skin can deal with that.

BTW, back to the film issue, what the possibility can happen if the humidity is too dry?

For human skin, too much dry can create (sort of) crack in the skin surface. What about for film?

Probably best to keep the cans open once mr.V visits. I understand he works quicker indoors.

In all seriousness, you wouldn't want to take films you intend to project down to 6% RH. This is for storage! Molecular sieves really ought to end up doing the same as they absorb all water and acetic acid vapor, making a film in a can have about 0% humidity. So all I'm doing is accelerating the sieve's job. Yes, I would expect we should watch for increased brittleness until the film re-moistens itself or it's given a chance to acclimatize. But brittleness doesn't have a 1:1 ratio with humidity, as you well know.

Yes, on days like this contact lenses and skin both tend to feel like sandpaper. At least there are drops and lotions to help!
