This has been going on for weeks now: everytime I look at my own profile, four messages I wrote to other members show up with a status of "unread by recipient." Yet I know for a fact at least one of them WAS read (by Andreas Eggeling) because he responded to it through email. What's up? Is this a forum bug? If I remove these messages, will they vanish from the other people's inboxes?

As far as I know the message section is working ok or has at least been doing so for me. If you delete the messages from your box they will still remain in the recipients box so no worries on that score.

If the recipient responds via email the forum software has no way of knowing that they read the email. It just knows that they never opened the message via their profile.

Not quite sure what you're saying there Daryl - I know forum members can opt to receive email notifications whenever a private message arrives for them on the forum, but I'm not aware of messages being sent out as email. What (must have) happened was Andreas read a message I left for him here on the forum, then wrote his reply to me through email. The forum would still know that he read my message, right?
