I had the pleasure of being in Prague last weekend and was thrilled to find a shop with modern super 8 equipment for sale.

But what the heck is it ?

That looks like quite a nice 'vintage' Std 8 projector. You should have snapped it up! Do you think it was actually a new machine?
This reminds me of the first time I visited Romania in 1989. Although it was a couple of months before the revolution, I did see a shop selling some Std 8 equipment, and some Std 8 film stock in a department store. It makes you wonder if in some countries, Super 8 never took off, and 8mm users continued to use Std 8.

Tony,

It looks like you had an encounter with a projector manufactured in the former Soviet Union, specifically Leningrad. That's a "Russ 8mm, Super-8" (made in 1975). It (obviously) showed both formats, but you needed to change the film gate and the sprocket wheel.

Hi guys,
I was in Prague also, in February, and yes, they have quite a bit of small format film equipment.

I picked up a Double Super-8 (DS8) camera for $10 that had a "Made in Chechoslovakia" label on it! I couldn't resist it. [Smile]
I haven't tried it yet, but I have two rolls of FOMA b&w reversal (also bought in Prague) waiting for the right moment...

Beautiful city, by the way!
