We caught the Johnny Depp
sequel and it had
a lot of action and some
homage to Disney's 20,000 Leagues
Under the Sea and Fairbanks Sr.'s
The Black Pirate.

A fun summer blockbuster show. [Smile]

It is indeed a great fun film. Once you've passed the slow start (first half hour is a bit sluggish), it's non-stop action.

...........and it's been packing them in at the Lunar Drive-in. We expected solid business, but we had lines almost a kilometer along the highway waiting to get in. Remember, we are in mid Winter here!

We went to the Council Bluffs Drive In last night and saw "Pirates II" and Disney's animated film "Cars." Cars didn't complete until about 2:00am. I didn't want to get out of bed this morning but the kids Misses and I had a lot of fun and I enjoyed both films, looking forward to Pirates III. Opening weekend last weekend the Drive In sold out (600 cars.) I'd say last night was about 75% capacity, not bad for a second week run.

Interestingly where we saw
the film in what was at one
time the drive-in, but
is now a multiplex.
We do not have Drive-in's on Long Island anymore [Frown]

JMT:
Agreed, the first 45 minutes nearly
put me to sleep. Of course this was
after 20minutes of canned radio air announcements
set to slide adverts, 20 minutes of
Video production previews and
commercials, and 20 minutes of Film theatrical
trailers. Thus it all began 20 minutes after
the scheduled start time.
By the way, admission is $10.00 each for adults.

A drive-in show in the middle of winter?
Your not anywhere near Victoria or Queensland. [Confused]

I guess Aussie's know how to stay warm with film. [Big Grin]

Depp has a unique way of capturing
your attention.
I can't wait for Pirates III, and
it should be interesting how they
bring the story together.
Lucas's ILM and their special effects team
have outdone themselves once again.

$10 for Pirates II is highway robbery, we payed $8.00/adult for both shows. The only caveat being we didn't have to sit thru 20 minutes worth of slides set to music prior to the show but it was quite warm out in the parking lot that night. We would have been able to watch 3 Stooges during the between show intermission however they were experiencing technical problems with that particular projection system.

John,

It's highway robbery
here in the NY Metropolitan
area, and surrounding suburbs. [Eek!]

Daily matinee programs before
6pm in some theatres are priced
at $6.00 a pop.

But to my recollection
about 23 years ago in
Sydney, Australia it was
about $10.00 for Return of the Jedi.

Michael, all Australian drive-ins have always run year round, including ours which is open every night of the year. Australian Winters are nothing like our US or European cousins. It is sunshine and blue sky here today and about 16 degrees celcius.

We charge $12 for a double feature per adult. For family films like Cars etc we charge $20 per carload. So families with vans, 4wd's and wagons pile 'em in and save a fortune compared to the local multiplexes.

We are in the state of Victoria; it is not as mild as Queensland at the moment, but in Summer we do have higher temperatures than them.

Revenge of the Jedi
and Pirates/ Pt. 2

If you have not seen
Pirates of the Caribbean
then perhaps you should not
