I just read this in the Independent:

http://arts.independent.co.uk/film/news/article3255611.ece

My initial reaction was one of apprehension. It's all good and well to resurrect a great, beloved name, but the sceptic in me shudders at what the phrase 'introducing it to a new generation' could mean.

The idea that the first product out the gate is a YouTube video doesn't exactly give me the urge to jump with joy.

Hammer's place in history is secure, but I am of the opinion that if you can't do something to continue the traditions of such a name, can't you at least have the decency to leave it alone. The answer is, I suppose, 'guess not.'

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, though, until I see otherwise.

Best,
Claus.

Hands up who will not turn out to see the new films?

Don’t think they will ever capture all that is Hammer or indeed find the talented actors who were more versatile than the so called cream of the crop we have today. My own view is that it is a shame all these writers that are on strike feel they are worth the money re writing someone else’s old scripts which have already been in production and made films for goodness sake. Much dross hits our screens which is why, according to our cinema manager who has the figures people only see around 10% of the yearly releases in his cinema.

Thankfully Hammer classics will always be with us but I doubt if any new attempt to recapture them with 21st century method will stand the test of time.

all that had been said is true ...

Another factor is the line up of actors that were Hammer regulars.

No matter what they put out, they won't have the combination of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee ...

(Though it would be awesome to see Lee as an aged "King of vampires" with long hair and some black trenchcoat set-up ... awesome!)
