Famed British animator, Oliver Postgate, has just died, aged 83.

Many generations of children enjoyed his television programmes which started in 1958 (in black & white) with "Ivor The Engine."

His programmes included, "Noggin The Nog", "Clangers", and probably the best loved of all, "Bagpuss." Oliver also provided the commentary.

In his early days he used a Bolex H16, with a home-made single frame release unit.

A sad loss. I was lucky enough to meet him at the NFT a few years ago and he signed my copy of his excellent autobiography 'Seeing Things'. I was quite unnerved when he spoke to me. That voice is the soundtrack of my early childhood. A wonderful man.

Best wishes,

Tiv

Yes very sad Maurice.

But what wonderful memories and feelings he left us with, and what a legacy.
My youngest ( 5 ) loves Ivor the Engine, and watches them on YouTube.

Thank You Oliver.

Best Mark.
