Just thought I would take a second and say hi, I am new to the forum and cine film. I am a staunch film advocate for my still photography and never like magnetic or digital video so I have always just stuck to still photography I did have a short try with a Panasonic DVX100B as well as a few digital video cameras but it didn't last long, just didn't like the way my footage looked. Same with my still photography, I tried digital; owned some very nice high MP cameras, but eventually went back to film. I currently shoot medium format (Mamiya 645) and 4X5 for still photography and recently purchased a Bolex H8 (non reflex) with a Som Berthiot 10-40mm f2.8 zoom (with TTL viewer) and a Bolex M8 projector. I was lucky enough to get a few rolls of Kodachrome 8mm with the camera and also bought 8 rolls of assorted films, 4 B&W 100ISO, 2 Color 100ISO, and 2 Color 200ISO from John Schwind at International Film Brokers. I have yet to shoot any film, but found this forum and thought it would be a great place to meet with fellow film cine aficionados.
I should have my camera and projector next week and will begin the learning process. The projector did not come with any take up reels so I purchased a 200' and 400' reel from an eBay seller along with a 50' reel of acetate leader and some splicing tapes. I am still on the hunt for a splicer. There are many to choose from but am not sure if I should buy one with a viewer or a simpler model that just holds the film. There is a Bolex model but the eBay seller wants $90 for it, which seems a bit high, although I do appreciate quality, which is why I went with a Bolex camera and projector. (read many places that Bolex is about the best one can buy, especially for the projector)
Looking forward to chatting with you all here on the forum!
Colin
