10" of snow from the weekend was rained away yesterday. High today is expected to be around 15°. Midwest definitely has it rougher than we do here in NY state.

Pretty much the same downstate.

The measure of a nasty winter here is that our salt water harbors and bays freeze over.

I think we will get there this time.

It appears that if you use Statoil in Norway, you are entitled to a free coffee all year at Statoil petrol (gas) stations.
Frokostklubben translates as Breakfast Club.

Correct, Maurice :-) It's a common deal with gas stations here. You pay 200 NOK (25-30 USD) for a thermo-cup, and it entitles you to unlimited free coffee at all gas stations from that particular chain when you bring the cup.

Meanwhile, back in New York:

Two nights ago my wife announced the bathtub wasn't draining. I grabbed the plumber's helper and hit it with everything I had and it still wouldn't flow a drop!

All of a sudden it dawned on me: the drain had frozen!

The pipe in question is buried inside a wall, so since I could't get to it we went two nights of short showers and bailing the tub afterwards.

Sure enough: today it warmed up a little and now the tub is draining on its own.

The bonus is we didn't burst the drain pipe.

We've been living here since 1992 and this is the first time we've had this happen.

You're telling me!

-Around here having a plumber's van standing outside your house is the financial equivalent of finding Vikings on your beach!

Went to an eye specialist about a year ago for a half an hour.... full once over, that cost $85....got a plumber in to clear a drain, about half an hour work and that cost $140....

It should be the other way round don't you think [Roll Eyes]
