Time to plan the Christmas day film show. Following a 4pm turkey dinner we shall be showing a few timeless favourate's

Mickey's Christmas Carol super 8
A Walt Disney Christmas super 8
The Snowman Super 8
Blotto - Laurel & Hardy Super 8

Feature: It Happened on 5th Avenue digital

This film I have only discovered in the last couple of years, and it is not widely known. But I find it charming and funny, and ultinmately touching and chock full of the spirit of Christmas. Highly recommended.

It's become a tradition with us to run on super 8 "Donald's Snow Fight*, Tom & Jerry in "The Night Before Christmas" and "Pluto's Christmas Tree".

I put these Derann prints together on one spool (!) about 20 years ago and they still look amazing, showing once a year, every year on Christmas Day.

You know it's Christmas when these are on the big screen. [Smile]

We had our Christmas show at The Salvation Army last Monday eve. I ran 'The Candlemaker', 'To Each a Gift' ( a nice Christmas drama), and 'Holy Night'. A member of the audience played the organ and we had a carol singalong. Refreshments were provided and we had a great evening.

I'll probably screen A Walt Disney Christmas, The Night before Christmas (T&J), Mickey's Christmas Carol on 16mm, Small One, Thank you very Much - extract from Scrooge and finally Scrooge with Alistair Sim full feature and James Stewart in It's a Wonferful Life.

Last night we had a Christmas show here at home.

We went all out: I made up a flyer in Word and sent it out in E-mail to a bunch of our friends. The machine I wanted to use was a little behind on maintenance so I changed the belts and the lamp, lubed the worm and cleaned the film path thoroughly. I checked my external sound system over and found I actually had a speaker disconnected.

We put the house in full company mode (My wife says we have to keep it this way until New Years!). She made snacks and arranged the décor in ways only my wife seems to understand.

The program was a very nice Derann print of “The Small One”. Then we had a short intermission and switched to DVD projection for the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas concert. If there was any dust in my speakers before last night I’m sure it’s gone now!.

We were at our usual five or six until two days ago and all of a sudden that doubled. We grabbed chairs from all over the house and managed to still give everybody a good view of the screen.

-We had a blast!

(I actually got a request for some Our Gang the next time.)

I discovered "It Happened On 5th Avenue" several years ago. What a charming movie. It is now part of my annual holiday line up. I discovered, through research, that it's star, Victor Moore, was a resident of my home town of East Islip, Long Island, NY, USA. He passed away there in the early 1960s. I was 9 years old (give or take). I only knew of him as a cartoon version of himself in one Warner Brothers cartoon (Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck). His animated character was a hunter. He voiced the character himself. His voice is very unique.

We'll have Polly's classmates round on the 21st for some short festive 'toons, Big Business (well... Christmas trees, right?) then after an interval I'll screen Mickey's Christmas Carol, an extremely generous gift from an ex-forum member whose generosity toward me these last 12 months has known no bounds. I'm also going to keep the projector downstairs over the festive period and will snatch more 8mm and 16mm screenings throughout the fortnight off from work. It has been a terribly busy year and I can't wait to kick back and celebrate with family and friends.

As I hope to be setting up my newest theater I am not sure if I can do this kind of show myself. But it sounds amazing and wish I could be there, Paul!

Almost every year up north I would run my print of It’s a Wonderful Life. Other times, I would run something with Christmas within the movie, but not actually be a Christmas movie.
