I decided to refrain from the forum and, indeed, Ebay for the last three days or so, and concentrate on the festivities.
Returning now, as I am doing, I read this wonderful topic.
Since I started collecting films in 1972-ish (starting with 50' black and white silents, progressing to features.....with sound!) I can honestly say that 2017 has been my BEST EVER YEAR BAR NONE for film purchases. Some of these I could only dare to dream would ever adorn my collection. But in the last 365 ish days.....THEY HAVE DONE!
Poltergeist (flat) Gremlins Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Wizard of Oz Yankee Doodle Dandy Lethal Weapon Carquake Reach For The Sky Ben Hur City Heat The African Queen Police Academy 2 A Night To Remember The Lady Vanishes The 39 Steps War Of The Worlds
.... amongst others. So, as you can see, it has not been an "okay" year....It has been BRILLIANT !
Here's to 2018 !

Get on Melvin, i forgot that you bought that one, I'm pleased its gone to a good home, My other two turned up from Steve at the Reel Image today, Three on Couch, good old Jerry Lewis 400 footer, A very rare trailer on 8mm Pulp Fiction, A1 quality to and it appears to be on brown pre stripe stock so the sound its stonking. Only problem was for some reason i got hit with £14.00 import bill, (VAT and a rip off fee from Royal mail) so this will probably put paid to me buying from the States again unless it is really something special, i was well peed off with this as the two films were only $40 so now this import crap makes it expensive. First time thats ever happened to me but these two titles now conclude my list for 2017 Right then, whats going to be my first buy of 2018

2017 has also been the best year for me, with 11 16mm features purchased between March and November. I couldn't afford to buy that amount during the Golden Age of Super 8 in the 70s and early 80s. There seems to have been better titles on offer this year. My increase has probably been due to spending more time looking on Ebay, and buying through the Global Shipping Programme. Most were listed at BIN prices, which with customs and postage, often worked out no dearer than what you would expect to pay from a UK dealer. Among the titles I picked up were, Zulu Wife of Monte Cristo Sword of Monte Cristo The Four Feathers (Very nice copy from Mr Guest) The gem of my collection, now has to be, simply for it's rarity, 'My Wife's Family', a comedy with Ted Ray and Ronald Shiner. I had actually had to stop adding due to the extreme shortage of space, but then had to come back when David listed 'Jason and the Argonauts'; this has been my most desired film since Derann issued a Super 8 feature, which must be over 30 years ago. Strangely, after waiting all these years; within two weeks of receiving it, I found a local shop selling imported wine from Georgia, in clay bottles. One of them showed Jason and the Argonauts. I learned from my wife that Colchis, where the golden fleece was is in present day Georgia. Needless to say I have added this bottle to my collection. I also purchased a print of 'Siege of the Saxons', which was the supporting feature to Jason in 1963.

2018 has been a reasonable year of additions for us, we sold a few off that we acquired last year along with some others to gain funds for new titles, however, here are our 2018 additions to our collection,
Die Hard feature, (at last) A Disney xmas to replace our fading copy Pathe news 1956 George Formby Souvenir Murderers Row 400ft col Abba the movie trailer 10 trailer scope Goldeneye Promo (Tina Turner) Innerspace trailer Silence of the Lambs feature. (at last) Toy Tinkers 200ft colour sound Speedy Gonzales, Here today gone Tamale, The Young Ones, 200ft colour sound, Thats Entertainment reel 8,
On 16mm Jagged Edge High Plains Drifter, Scope Madigan 800ft version Mash Episode (Aid Station) excellent colour The Professionals (The Rack, excellent colour) No Way out LPP Robin Prince of Thieves Minder Bury my half in Waltham green Bilko episode, Grand Hotel, Combat episode, Reunion, Mississippi Burning LPP
We did also sell off a fair few small items and one or two old features in 2018 and will continue to do so in 2019 to reduce number.
Another excellent purchase for me in 2018 was my Eiki SLT2 super slot loader and a Kodak 19mm lens from Kevin Clarke.
Now looking out to make a January purchase, 8 or 16mm
Happy New year to all. [ January 03, 2019, 03:29 PM: Message edited by: Tom Photiou ]

With moving house in late 2017 and putting together a new screening room, I only bought one super 8 film in 2018, but what a gem it is.
Ian O'Reilly advertised it here, "Bulldog Jack", a 30's crime caper with Fay Fray. 3 x 400ft and at a very decent price, I took a punt, not knowing anything about it.
After a bit of google, it is a Bulldog Jack off-shoot, edited from the feature, although just where and how you couldn't guess.
It is intentionally hilarious, the sort of film that has been overlooked, but hugely entertaining. I looked to see if a digital version exists, but apparently only a Spanish version with average picture and very poor sound, so another reason to have the very watchable super 8 version.
It was shown several times over Christmas with lots of laughs, and a bargain from the ever reliable Ian.
Just brilliant - long live real film!
PS. It came on one full 1200ft spool with "J. Bird" written in black marker around the edge, so I wonder if this once belonged to the great John Bird of super 8 heritage here in the UK?
