Always wondered why 8mm and 16mm (well most) have clockwise direction take up, while 35mm has counterclockwise direction?

35mm projectors in this country have clockwise direction take-up spool rotation. When rewinding, film is rewound "across the top". This facilitates inspection and checking.

Wouldn't the old RCA projectors have anti clockwise take up, as both spools were at the front. It was B&H who came up with the idea of having the take up spool at the back.

I have three 16mm projectors where the spools are at the front. Two have clockwise direction take-up, and one has anti-clockwise.
