Many years ago back in the 1970s I bought a new Universal Super8 digest of Silent Running. I was an unusual film at the time, but both myself and Yvonne did enjoy it. In time I gave it away, but always wondered what the full feature would be like.
Two weeks ago the Blu-ray arrived from amazon.uk and last night for the first time we watched it. The image quality might not be right up there with the latest cinema releases, but its certainly very good indeed as with DTS-HD Master Audio.
This special Blu-ray edition is packed full of interesting extras, including a 1972 50 minute "The Making Of" plus a really nice 48 page booklet.
This Blu-ray is from the Masters of Cinema series, and I must say you cant ask for more. What a great way to spend a winters night than sitting close to the screen watching this unusual story unfold.

I have always loved this ever since I first saw it in a theatre. It's an often overlooked film. Great Sci-fi with a really good message.

Excellent shots Graham. One of my favorite Of the under rated ScI Fi films during this period. The film's message important even more so today. From your stills you can see both Kubrick and Lucas influence. Trumble may not have been a great director, but as a visionary he is remarkable...Thanks!

As always Graham, superb screenshots that make us all realise how good todays digital prijection really is. All we can get on super 8 of this movie is a fading 17 minuites.

A friend of mine and I often have a double bill screening on a Saturday afternoon, and this was one of the classics he turned up with recently.
I still can't believe how lucky we are to be watching this kind of cinema quality at home, and the availability of lots of "cult" titles such as Silent Running.
Just a little off topic, but he once brought around Mad Max. Now whilst I still find it a bit of a difficult watch, the thing that really surprised me was how well photographed it was. I realised I'd only ever seen it on fuzzy VHS or 4:3 TV. Seeing it in full 2K 'scope glory was a revelation.
That and many other movies too really have been given a new lease of life.

When watching the blu-rays of the original Battlestar Galactica I noticed the domes of that ship showing as the agricultural ship in the fleet. Both Universal productions of course.
