In Greece,"fried potatoes" means potatoes cut to finger size pieces and fried in sunflower oil. "Chips" are readymade very thin fried crispy potato slices bought in airtight bags and used as snacks. Also, perhaps to start another long conversation, the original "plain" coffee,i.e. freshly ground coffee added in boiling water, was called "turkish coffee",until about twenty or thirty years ago when, out of more correct definition,or perhaps patriotism, was renamed "greek coffee",and it has stayed so.
