A Belgian cpmpany wishes to change the "French fries" expression used in the US and other Anglo-saxon countries (the UK uses "chips") for "Belgian fries". Everybody knows that fries/chips are a Belgian speciality 😁

It is so strange that with the amount of this type of food consumed in the UK, we have such a short name as "chips." At least "Belgian Fries" or "French Fries" sound like a mouth full !!!!!!

French Toast is bread dipped in scrambled egg and then pan fried.

@Steve- FT cooked in deep oil(canola or similar will do)... and then butter on top when still hot, and lots of syrup. You can't eat many like this or you will have instant heart failure, but how my grampa did them at 5am on a Saturday morning, and woke me up from a dead sleep every time....
No other way will do!

Upon the outbreak of hostilities our lovely 'shortened,creamed,donut-style buns"ceased to be called German buns and became Belgian buns! French toast was always FT......Oh,and we had a couple of 'sausage dogs......' [Roll Eyes]

Belgian fries would go well with Chicken Kiev, a Spanish omelette or Swedish meatballs. Perhaps followed by some German chocolate cake or baked Alaska?

I always thought that Frans fries are the small version of Belguim fries.

Today, 21th July is national day in Belgium. Yesterday, TV aired a clip (with the Belgian anthem, which is not common for commercials for Belgian fries a few moment before the speech of the King.

Sadly, I didn't find a clip in English. Those are not the ones with the national athem as it's not on YouTube but better than nothing ;

But to be honest, I liked the Belgium version more, because it's more suitable for his complaint.

The "filet américain" or "américain" is eaten in Belgium with...fries [Big Grin] It's raw preapered meat. The same dish is known in France as "steak tartare" but it's roughly the same recipe.

Following the evening news, UK is importing more fries (and some other Belgian products) at the moment as it seems to be a fear that some goods may be more difficult to get just after the Brexit. Belgian companies know that this situation will not last forever but that's an unxpected positive side of what will (or may ?) happen on 31th October. I had no idea the chips from (some) British Fish and chips were imported from Belgium [Smile]

In Greece,"fried potatoes" means potatoes cut to finger size pieces and fried in sunflower oil. "Chips" are readymade very thin fried crispy potato slices bought in airtight bags and used as snacks. Also,perhaps to start another long conversation,the original "plain" coffee,i.e. freshly ground coffee added in boiling water,was called "turkish coffee",until about twenty or thirty years ago when,out of more correct definition,or perhaps patriotism,was renamed "greek coffee",and it has stayed so.
